... it's the one with "it's the most wonderful time of the year" as the music. It's a sodding Christmas song!

Yes, I can see that they've been quite clever with the working of it e.g. father Christmas lookalike giving out lollies etc but it sets my teeth on edge. I don't want to hear this music in August!

(First thread in aibu - feel like a proper mnetter now)

Doesn't it go on about much mistletoe - ing and all that? Of course it's a bloody Christmas song and has no business being in an advert in August.

Same with Chris Evans on Radio2 who uses it at the beginning of his breakfast show, only replacing the word year with day. And I can tell you, 6.30am is not the most wonderful time of my day.Confused

It's ridiculous here, LittleSporks. Some of the stores get their Christmas stock out in August and the other faiths don't get a look in. Like the Co-op advert, they want you to spend as much money as they can get off you so once Christmas is over (Christmas Day!) the adverts for the sales start, then the adverts for Easter, then Mother's Day, then Father's day, then the summer holidays, then back to school, then Christmas (Bonfire night and Halloween are not promoted as much here).

YANBU. I hate this advert, and I change channel as soon as it comes on. Christmas gets earlier every year, I don't need to hear Christmas songs in flipping August (Or July when I first saw it!).

LittleSporksBigSpork very interesting. Thanks for your insight :) I totally agree, here in the UK it is more focused on consumers! Shops are full of Christmas stock by September! I must admit I do love Christmas and the hustle and bustle of busy Christmas shopping BUT in December, not September :P
Although, I was watching a vlog of a family in America just this weekend and they were shopping and low and behold, there was a HUGE Christmas section, full of decorations and trees! Way too early IMO.
I think here it's pretty much Sept-December Xmas stock, Jan - sales and soon after Easter! Then a small break over summer before starting again. It takes away the excitement!

So glad I'm not alone! I first saw it a couple of weeks ago and my annoyance has been building since then. It just feels so wrong!

YANBU

I hate it, that music to me should only be used in reference to Christmas.

b584 · 04/08/2013 16:38

I work in a Co op and have to listen to it time and time again on Co op radio, it is played roughly after every two songs, I've become immune to it but I have to say that it is very clever as everyone is talking about it and remembers it so in a way they have won.

LondonNinja · 04/08/2013 16:43

YANBU. It's awful. Their ads are all largely terrible and put me off buying anything there.

YY to the "gudd with fuuudd" ad, too. Urgh.
