To expect a shirt in Gap to cost the same, whether in store or online?

Bought a shirt in store today, £29.95. Same bleeding thing on their website is £17.99! I didn't think this was legal! Will be taking it back and grumbling, Victor Meldrew stylee.

Currys (or was it Comet) stated it was cheaper on line simply because they didnt have store overheads and staff wages to pay.

It is normally cheaper to buy online because warehouse costs are significantly cheaper than a high street venue

This also really annoys me! Ok if you buy online you have to pay a £4 or £5 delivery charge but a trip into town to do shopping often costs as much or more than delivery in terms of bus fare / petrol / parking.

Diff areas charge businesses different rates and I do understand it might be pricier for Gap et al to operate a staffed store in a central area than an online warehouse but surely that doesn't excuse a £12 price difference! Online 'exclusive' or not!

YABU. Online shops have drastically lower running costs so they can offer products cheaper. It's pretty standard.

It's absolutely legal in every way by the way, so don't go down that route unless you want to look like a loon...

Hmm, I've done this. Taken it back and then bought again online. It's so random though so the cheaper overheads argument isn't consistent. I suppose nowadays enough people have smart phones so they can check the price whilst in the shop? V. annoying though

I returned some stuff and it was pricier in store.

The girl at the till was quite open about it too.
Don't get to use all the voucher codes in store either.

Och no I wouldn't go in shouting the odds if it was legal for them to so this. It's off from a customer service point of view though. I'm definitely taking it back. I'm a frugal Scot! Money better in my pocket than theirs. If I can be arsed ordering it online after that then I might. I'll definitely mention it in store though, in the hope they might price match?

YABU. it's cheaper to operate an online store and therefore not U for a business to encourage consumers to use it by sharing the savings with them. (Of course it's also not U for a store to reduce prices in the high-street shop to encourage footfall and drive impulse sales.)
