Even though my DH is on a low carb high protein diet?... Because it will cheer me up after a day of dealing with the foul mood that results from someone used to a diet of chip buttes and toast, dramatically cutting out ALL carbs overnight?

Seriously there is no way this new diet can be healthy? I have told him he surely needs to eat some carbs. anyone else had to deal with this, how long before he stops being such a grumpy old git?

As long as I can have some.

YANBU. Is he doing The Atkins Diet?

Either way - he presumably decided he was going to cut all carbs. You didn't. So you can eat what you want Grin

Only a couple of weeks I would say before the grumpiness subsides! Check out the boot camp thread. I used to think a low carb diet was nuts and unhealthy. I've now done enough reading around the subject and am now convinced that actually a high carb/sugar diet is what causes obesity. It's a grim couple of week while you adapt but once you do it's very liberating to not feel drawn to carbs /sweets anymore. I no longer feel like eating cake and it takes away the emotional /psychological reward system your brain builds around carbs. It's great for emotional eaters.

I do want to support him, he's desperate to lose weight and thinks this will kick start it. Two weeks! We are on day three. At least his breath hasn't started smelling yet.

OP you are evil.

I WANT CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE! and there's not a scrap in the house, I have no oven to cook one in and DH won't go to the shop to get my any.

All I can say is thank god I have wine!

TimeofChange · 03/08/2013 20:36

Good luck to you both.

My son in law decided to detox so without mentioning it to his DW he gave up, all at once:
sugar
caffeine
cigarettes
cannabis
alcohol

He was became a horrible, bad tempered arse hole.

make a caramel sauce to pour warm - do a dolce de leche by doing a tin of condensed milk with 2 holes punched in top in a bain Marie for 2-4 hours depending on how dark you want the caramel then whisk it in a bowl and pour - and have you a nice vanilla icecream to go with?
