V. boring AIBU: teapot of loose herbal tea?

Sorry to bring you down to these levels Grin

However I often make a teapot of herbal tea in the evening, perhaps topping it up once or twice.

I have been known, on days like today, to go downstairs first thing and top it up with hot water again. Then drink it. I had someone say to me today in horrified tones that it might be floating in bacteria, which I've never considered. So AIBU? Or are they being sensitive?

You are tipping boiling water on it. Isn't there a thing where you make a casserole and cook it forever, just adding more bits to it? And hardly anyone dies.

Bad bacteria or the Yakult kind?

Tbh if you've been doing it for ages I wouldn't be too worried and congratulate myself on my cast iron constitution Grin

Of course I know fuck all so would listen to whoever comes along to tell you that's how you contract Ebola....

Iamsparklyknickers · 03/08/2013 18:49

Nagoo the only thing I'm aware of that method not working with is rice because of it's borg spores.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/08/2013 18:50

You might get some dead flies floating in it but I doubt much else. What deadly bacteria grows in tea anyway?!

currentlyconfuseddotcom · 03/08/2013 18:53

Erm...sorry, I eat cooked rice the next day as well Blush Perhaps I do have an iron constitution.

Thank you for the advice, i thought this might be too mundane for anyone to respond to.

Pobble I don't know masses about bacteria and am not a germ fretter anyway, so have no idea! I was surprised when someone said.

My DH does this, he's never been ill from it, but then he works at a sewage works so has an iron constitution.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/08/2013 18:55

I had food poisoning as a child from re-heated rice. It was horrific. I've never reheated rice out of fear!

currentlyconfuseddotcom · 03/08/2013 18:55

Eeek Pobble I can see why you don't then! Once bitten twice shy...

I do this too & never knowingly had a fly in it. I think it's fine if you're happy with it. I also dry out papaya seeds & stick them in the pepper mill, plenty I'm sure won't like that but no-one's died yet I'm saving the foxgloves to do that Grin

YANBU:

Like you, it would never even of entered my head.

Some people are a bit obsessive about bacteria.
They are the Unreasonable ones.
