AIBU?

To rant about my children's now ruined brand new clothes?

I know I am BU but I am so pissed off I don't care.

My parents took my children camping at their expense for two weeks. This is awesome and I am incredibly lucky to have such a close and supportive family.

As the weather was hot and they've grown since last summer, I had gave them their holiday clothes for our holiday this year.

My parents have allowed them to go a play park in their brand, spanking new white shorts. They have not soaked the resulting stains as soon as they occurred, they've been through the wash twice with surf, vanish in wash and vanish spray on stain remover, nothing has touched it, they're now soaking in the sink with half water, half vanish. They're obviously going top need replacing Angry

I know I am lucky that my kids got a free holiday and in the grand scheme of things they're only shorts, but I am so fucking annoyed that no-one thought to ask them to change into more suitable clothing for going to the park in the mud. They'd only worn the shorts once.

yabu. You knew they were going camping and would probably get mucky. You should have sent them in clothes that did not matter if they got them dirty.

Why do you need to buy new shorts? Do your dc only have one pair? They dont need brand new clothes for eating out on holidays. They really dont.

Dye the shorts. Who in their right mind buys white shorts for kids on holiday? Grin

First white shorts. Then cerise playsuits. Grin
You are one of those people who just can't see the bigger picture. i.e that your parents took your kids on holiday for a week camping.
God I wish I had someone, ANYONE to take my kids, for more than a few hours, at a playscheme, for example.

Op, you are one of those people to whom, my life is so very different, that I can not relate to you alt all.
I find you picky, ungrateful and narrow minded. On this particular issue, at least.

YABU

White shorts & DC don't mix.

When my DC go to their GPs I pack old/primark clothes as I know they will end up stained or don't come back at all.

You should be glad your DC had a great holiday.

I did also learn the hard way and sent DD with an expensive dress and it came back with holes in

A few friendly tips;

  1. Don't buy white clothes.
  2. Don't buy clothes for DC's that are so expensive you are going to be upset if they get ruined.
  3. Camping holidays are not the place for new clothes.
  4. DC's do not need new/expensive clothes to attend a disco/pub. They're kids no-one, should be judging them on what they're wearing.

For the white shorts put them on the line on a sunny day and spray on spray bleach, I guarantee the stains will come out of them. The pink pair, buy new ones. I won't tell you how unreasonable you are being because you probably know by now.

I've never understood why children (or anyone for that matter) needs 'new' clothes for holidays - it's just buying into the materialistic attitude of always needing 'new' stuff.

Its a blessing in disguise - God saw fit to ruin not only one pair of white and pink shorts but 2 to save the poor kids from looking all matchy matchy!!!

Hoorah!!!!

Can we re-focus, please?

I really need to know why the guinea pigs have their own towel.
[In my head, it's because they go swimming. They have little hats and arm bands too]

I thought the g pigs had been in the paddling pool, maybe - with tiny little buckets and some bubbles.

They needed new clothes because they've grown, of course. Children tend to do that from time to time Hmm

The poor kids pick their own clothes and choose to be matchy matchy.

They will need more shorts because I only bought 2 pairs, now they only have one left. If they were only a little bit stained I wouldn't be bothered but they are very, very, very stained, the whole of the back of dd2's are literally black.

You "say" away if you feel you have to and watch your DCs free two week holiday with their doting GPs fade into the mist.

Children should be able to play in all their clothes and when they get dirty, they get washed. I'd just be delighted they were out in the fresh air getting muddy rather than stuck inside in front of a screen.

My parents live hundreds of miles away, they have never even babysat for my two let alone took them away anywhere. You are lucky!

If your parents take the kids away camping again, visit some charity shops and get cheap clothes suitable for camping (even white, it doesn't matter). That way everyone benefits; the charity; you; kids; grandparents. What's not to like?

White shorts?!?!? Are you MAD?!?

So what has happened to the playsuit exactly? Dark colours together? Wow I am a bad housekeeper. Strict instructions !! ha ha

I love the idea that your kids have designated shorts "for going to the pub on summer evenings". How on earth would you expect your parents to have figured out that bizarre rule? Is there a reason why kids can't go to the pub on summer evenings in dark denim shorts?!

Ok so go to asda/ charity shop etc and pick up a two pack each of shorts for them to either keep as good for eating out or wear for play on holiday and keep the pair they have that arent white for good- this doesnt have to cost a lot of money to fix. Its not an issue really.

I have never, ever, ever, ever ever ever ever wanted to say this on mn before. But now I really want to say:

Is that all you have to worry about?

Anyway, the white shorts: the waitrose stain remover powder is very good. sook in that, then hot wash with bio washing powder and another scoop, then white shorts on the line to bleach. If there are still stains and you think they are oil, use swarfega on the dry fabric and wash again

the (ahem) Cerise Play Suits (snigger) - I think there is a powder that takes dye out specifically for colour transfer in the wash?

You sent clothes with instructions how and when they should be worn? Seriously?

You sound like the type of parent who insists children look immaculate and then stop them doing things out of fear they will get messy! Madness!
