It turns my stomach to see dogs on beds in advertisements, films etc...

And I'm actually a dog owner!

I just can't help thinking about the fur, the dirty paws, the worms, fleas and ticks, the things they lick, the way they lick their genitals and anus, even their disgusting flipping food. Even clean dogs are filthy compared to my bed. There is no way in god's earth that my dogs are ever even coming upstairs, let alone sleeping in/on my bed!

Why are dogs on beds sold as an attractive lifestyle notion?

And as you can imagine, this leaves me entirely cold.

AIBU or just slightly OCD?

Um...it's a bit odd to feel that strongly about it.

I mean, I don't allow dogs on furniture, but I don't care what other people do with their dogs and their furniture...

VestandKnickers · 02/08/2013 15:11

Personally I think it is the most natural thing in the world to co-sleep with my pets.

I draw the line at the tortoise though.

GobblersKnob · 02/08/2013 15:12

That duvet set is hilarious Grin

My dog and previous dogs have always slept on/in my bed. My current dogs saves his detailed pre-bed wash for when he is comfortably spooned against me in bed Wink

It's up to you to not like it, but is quite a strong reaction to advertising imo.

Pagwatch · 02/08/2013 15:13

My dogs lie on my bed some times.
They roll around. They sneeze sometimes. Other times they have just come in from the garden.....

I have some lovely pictures of DD asleep cuddling PenisDog on our bed.

Dahlen · 02/08/2013 15:13

My dog isn't allowed upstairs or on beds either, but that;s besides the point! WTAF indeed to your second link! Shock

The first link is just odd. Who would choose bedding like that?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 02/08/2013 15:14

Yabu. Pets should always be kept clean and de flea-ed and wormed anyway so shouldn't matter. But then I do work in a shop where customers have been known to absolutely reek and be visibly filthy so I'd take a pet any day :o

duchesse · 02/08/2013 15:14

at notion of sharing bed with pooch named PenisDog.

Spikeytree · 02/08/2013 15:15

I sleep with two cats and a dog in my bed. Sometimes I sleep more on
my bedside cabinet than the bed, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Pagwatch · 02/08/2013 15:17

I can tell the story about having to pull the plastic bag out of his arse again if you like. PenisDog was everso grateful.

duchesse · 02/08/2013 15:18

All the de-fleaing, deticking and worming stuff does is kill the ones that make it on to the pet- it doesn't actually repel them. So you end up with moribund ticks on your bed instead, complete with Lyme Disease in many parts of the country!!!

caffeine your comment reminds me the of the time I had queue in the post office for a long time once (before they started organising the queues) behind a chap who kept scratching his head. I got interested in the end and could see lice scrambling all through his hair! Needless to say I let him get a bit further ahead next time the queue moved and kept a sensible distance after that.

Your bed; your rules, my bed; my rules...

Frettchen · 02/08/2013 15:22

FWIW my puppy sleeps in his crate. He just gets on the bed when I'm getting dressed/reading...

SconeRhymesWithGone · 02/08/2013 15:22

You would hate my house. Ms. Dog usually sleeps between DH and me, with her head on his pillow and the rest of the dog on mine.

OP, you might want to avoid hotels that allow pets. Wink

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 02/08/2013 15:23

You'd hate my bed OP, there's all cat hair on the duvet cover, but I am so besotted I don't care.

I'm not a dog lover but if they feel about their dog the way I feel about my cat, then I sort of understand.

kali110 · 02/08/2013 15:24

Its up to you op, your bed your life. Bu to judge other people though. My one cat sleeps on bed and usually on do pillow. Now other one also wants to. We have no problem they can sleep where they want. When i was little the dog always slept with my parents.

duchesse · 02/08/2013 15:25

Scone- so, one of you, actually. has. her. bum. in your face all night?

Big point taken about hotels that accept pets. Luckily we can't afford hotels...

Spero · 02/08/2013 15:28

My dog gets under the duvet every night. She is lovely and snuggly. I would be a pretty rubbish owner if I left her riddled with fleas and ticks and covered in crap so I think she is pretty clean.

You are not alone in finding this revolting, but each to their own. My life would be much poorer if I couldn't have my dog on the sofa or bed.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 02/08/2013 15:28

Duchesse, I just turn the other way. Works for us. Smile

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 02/08/2013 15:28

From most the threads I've seen on here it's the husbands that are too yucky to let in the bed not the pets :o

Pagwatch · 02/08/2013 15:31

If you live your life unwilling to share your bed on the basis of genital licking there is a danger you will be the poorer for it

Chinese proverb.

that's a lie

cushtie335 · 02/08/2013 15:31

I have a greyhound and they're notoriously lazy and love nothing better than lying around on couches. They could advertise for DFS. Keeping my greyhound off the couch would be like asking him to grow a foot taller, it ain't gonna happen.

YoniBottsBumgina · 02/08/2013 15:38

Oh caffeine, I work in one of those too! I wonder if it's the same shop? If you don't want to out yourself, just answer this "insider question" - do you refer to customers as "custies"?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/08/2013 15:40

I don't mind seeing dogs on furniture (because I don't have one) but I don't like it.
I don't like dogs licking plates
dogs 'kissing' (ie licking) faces
And the most gag-inducing...
DD was watching Dog with a Blog on Disney (FFS) . The girl was going to allow Talking Dog to lick her feet.
I was (vom vom) and made DD turn over....
