Just done the test here:

www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

And read about my personality type:

www.personalitypage.com/

I am completely blown away by the accuracy of it. It explains why I get on with some people, and why I conflict with others.

Anyone else done this?

Floppity - wouldn't be surprised if that's what my employer was doing!!

summerbreezer · 01/08/2013 21:06

A friend of mine has done the test twice with differing results - but having read both descriptions, she felt drawn towards one. I suppose it is an art not a science.

Also - it is sad if employers are using it to force people out. I thought the whole point of it was that everyone is different and everyone is equal. No one type is "better" than any other.

Maybe if a qualified psychologist with proper background knowledge of these tests spent 3 hours going over stuff with you they'd get a good picture of you.

But mostly these things are misused/abused/misunderstood and administered by people who don't know what they're talking about.

You might as well employ people based on star signs. they are remarkably accurate too if you are inclined to believe them.

Does anyone else remember when Derren Brown did a series of readings for a group of ten people (he did it several times with different nationalities) He presented his findings on a sheet of A4. Most of them thought they were spookily accurate. Then he got them to swap round and he'd given them all exactly the same spiel.

lljkk · 01/08/2013 21:10

I've changed. For yrs I was an INTJ and now I'm an ESTP. That's not supposed to happen, right?

WafflyVersatile · 01/08/2013 21:10

I'm sure I would come out differently depending on when you tested me.

I only looked at the first question and the answer 10 years ago would be different from now.

KateCroydon · 01/08/2013 21:10

YABVU. It's unscientific shite. Works like astrology does by being vague and flattering. www.theguardian.com/science/brain-flapping/2013/mar/19/myers-briggs-test-unscientific

MsJupiterJones · 01/08/2013 21:11

Waffly that's exactly what I was thinking of (the Derren Brown thing).

I got INFP, it seemed accurate but I'm sure other options would have too. What is the J that everyone on MN is supposed to get?

Floppityflop · 01/08/2013 21:12

Yes, I wasn't an ENFP which apparently is the best one to be...

DamnDeDoubtance · 01/08/2013 21:14

Thanks for explaining summerbreeze. Yeh, that was pretty spot on.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/08/2013 21:16

ENTJ

I thought it was fairly accurate but not really surprising as it's a long established test.

orangeandemons · 01/08/2013 21:16

I'm an infj too!

greenfolder · 01/08/2013 21:17

My view is that YOU are answering questions about how YOU see yourself, it kills me that YOU the decide that THEY have got you spookily accurate. When I put that to the myers briggs expert at work he did have grace to go bright red.

DamnDeDoubtance · 01/08/2013 21:19

Are any of you other INFJs also cancerian? Just testing a theory...Grin

summerbreezer · 01/08/2013 21:20

I think I'm in the middle of this.

It's better than a horoscope. I am aware of the tests where everyone is given the same personality description - "You can be outgoing, but also shy..etc"

This is better than that. I have read the other personality types, and none of them fit me. They are all distinct from each other.

I has also given me an insight into where my areas of conflict with others lie. My sister is a J, I am a P. Our disagreements are usually "organisation" based. I book flights with a couple of months to go, in case I change my mind about where I go. My sis will book them six months in advance and have every detail of the holiday down to the letter.

However, I would be very very cautious about using this for any other purpose than having a bit of fun. It should not be the basis of hiring or firing people.

ENFP - pretty spot on for how I view myself. I've had to do it before a couple of times on promotion courses and was ENTP the first time, F the last couple. All the guys on my courses seemed to think their result was accurate too.

curlew · 01/08/2013 21:23

You do realise that it's all been discredited, don't you? I'll find a link when I can summon the energy.

WafflyVersatile · 01/08/2013 21:27

greenfolder, I think there is definitely at least some of that.

Are you always on time for appointments?
Yes. Of course I am!

Do you keep arrangements if you possibly can?
Yes. Of course!

Result. you are a reliable person who takes their responsibilities seriously.

Well there you go.

If answer no.

You are a laidback easy going person who doesn't like to be tied down by the daily grind.

lljkk · 01/08/2013 21:29

There was a workshop at work last week at work using MB, not out of fashion here yet.

KateCroydon · 01/08/2013 21:30

Curlew - I know how you feel.

AnnabelleLee · 01/08/2013 21:32

Yes but why are you talking about myers-briggs when you didn't do that?

monicalewinski · 01/08/2013 21:32

That never even occurred to me greenfolder Blush

Littlegreyauditor · 01/08/2013 21:36

INFJ. This explains a lot.

WafflyVersatile · 01/08/2013 21:38

So you're asking me what I'm like then telling me I'm like what I said I was like?

Cheers, money well spent.

WineNot · 01/08/2013 21:41

I disagree it isn't scientific. It based on years of researchers by psychologists including Carl Jung.

Curlew... Would be interested to see tht link

You don't have to go through a list of questions to determine our type. I did mine answering four questions.

Describe your ideal working environment

Describe this photo (shown a photo)

What would be your reaction if you were driving down a road one night and came across a deer that had been hit by a car but was still alive?

When you have to go on a journey somewhere unfamiliar, do you prepare in anyway?

The answers to those 4 questions gave me the same type as the big list of questions approach... So greenfolder I see what you're saying, but not sure it can be explained away quite that simply.
