to be a Myers-Briggs evangelist?

Just done the test here:

www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

And read about my personality type:

www.personalitypage.com/

I am completely blown away by the accuracy of it. It explains why I get on with some people, and why I conflict with others.

Anyone else done this?

I expect everyone on MN is XXX very strong J :)

I don't think it's that useful as it's hard to tell quickly what another person is in order to adjust your approach.

Helpyourself · 01/08/2013 20:32

ENFJ and scarily accurate careerwise- I've stumbled into my niche.

summerbreezer · 01/08/2013 20:32

The heart icon deals with interpersonal relationships etc..even tells you what kind of lover you are! I an "energetic" apparently Grin

I had some training once which included Myers-Briggs and I thought it was brilliant! They "proved" it worked by taking one category at a time, putting the two sides on opposite sides of the room and giving us a task to do. It was amazing to see the similarities between people of the same type, compared to the opposite type. I'm an INTJ (yes, another one!) but for the N/S category I found myself on the wrong side of the room. The task was "describe a pear". The first person in my group wrote, "It's water-based". The second wrote, "It's a fruit". The third - "It contains vitamins". I was staring at them incredulously wondering how they had got onto all of that before the bloody obvious - it's green/brown, it's speckled, it has a stalk, etc! I told the co-ordinator I thought I was in the wrong group and was relieved to see "It's green' right at the top of the 'N' team list Grin

You realise that if you did the metric in the link you gave, thats not actually the Myers-Briggs?
So I'm not really sure what you're evangelical about.

Also, psychological testing that is free online is not worth the paper its not printed on.

Grumpla · 01/08/2013 20:35

Haha, good point Crusts Smile

It is quite interesting though.

ASmidgeofMidge · 01/08/2013 20:35

Enfj here

Tee2072 · 01/08/2013 20:36

YABU what a load of crap.

Sondosia · 01/08/2013 20:36

Actually, thinking about it, I might have my N and S mixed up there... me and DH are INTJ and ISTJ, but I can never remember which way round it is

WineNot · 01/08/2013 20:39

Sondosia

N looks at the 'big picture' (it's water based, it's a fruit etc)
S is detail...

If that's how you describe a pear (it's green, speckled) I'd think you were an S

I'm an ESFJ and I'm a absolute believer. Our whole work team had their type done and it's accuracy is to be seen to be believed.

KreechasKeepa · 01/08/2013 20:41

INTJ here.

Sondosia · 01/08/2013 20:42

WineNot - Yep, I think I got them round the wrong way Smile

dontcallmehon · 01/08/2013 20:42

INTJ too.

LittleSporksBigSpork · 01/08/2013 20:44

They can be very accurate, but you need one that gives you percentage to give you a clear picture.

People can be only slightly one way or another and can change depending on the day for some letters and firmly one way on others.

I've been tested repeatedly and have never gotten below 95% Introvert, the others are always borderline 58/42.

HandMini · 01/08/2013 20:45

Lord, I hate Myers Briggs. Got stuck in half a day of training when we all had to do what Sondosia describes. I'm sure it's partly useful to categorise people if you're HR / psychologist or whatever, but am I really going to check my Myers Briggs book and work out if my colleage is a TNIF or whatever. No, I am not.

VBisme · 01/08/2013 20:45

ESTJ and in my perfect career apparently Grin

Sallystyle · 01/08/2013 20:46

ISFP

Spot on.

WineNot · 01/08/2013 20:48

HandMini I found it useful when dealing with colleagues. Helps me understand what 'pushes their buttons' and therefore how to 'sell' things to them and get things that I need signed off.

DamnDeDoubtance · 01/08/2013 20:52

INFJ here, but what does it mean?

MoreThanWords · 01/08/2013 20:54

That's interesting LittleSporks - I've done two and come out as ISTJ and INFJ.

summerbreezer · 01/08/2013 20:55

Damnde click on the second link, then the little shakespeare icon along the top of the page. All the personality types are then listed with explanations for each one.

TerraNotSoFirma · 01/08/2013 21:00

ENFP is my result.
Probably quite accurate.

Floppityflop · 01/08/2013 21:01

Personal view is that MB is used by corporates in an unethical way to bully their employees to conform. If you are the wrong type you can then be O.U.T.

Bexicles · 01/08/2013 21:02

YANBU, I'm an INFJ, the description is spot on.

TerraNotSoFirma · 01/08/2013 21:03

Thinking about it, am sure I came out as an ENTP before.
