To be very smug?

I have struggled for 2 years to get my dream job, I now have it and in no less than my dream city! I have worked very hard and been very frugal in order to get into the position to be able to move. Am very chuffed.

The reason for the smugness is that I am buying a house. I am moving up North from the Westcountry and would never be able to buy a comparable property if I stayed near where I grew up. I am buying a gorgeous house which is (by my standards) very cheap. I think I would be paying an extra 60-70k for a comparable house in my home town.

I have worked very hard for this, AIBU to revel in smugness for at least a month? I can't keep the grin off my face!

The city is in S. Yorkshire and begins with an S, I lived there as a student and LOVED it, all my good friends live there.

I have made all sorts of colour-coded speadsheets about what to do when I move in and planing colour-schemes etc. Grin

Seriously, 2/3 months ago you would have seen me on all the sadface jobhunting threads. I had been to more than 40 interviews and either got told to bog off or told they would love to hire me but someone else just pipped me to the post.

My last interview I literally thought I was flogging a dead horse and was considering alternative career options. The only reason I was still going for interviews was because it was slightly before my self-imposed deadline for giving up on that career. They not only offered me a job but a job with better promotion prospects than the one I actually went for!

Everytime I see a jobhunting thread I want to post and say don't give up hope, it will happen! But I know when I was looking I would see posts like that and just be: Envy "that will never happen for me". So I restrain myself because I know how it feels.

Yay, good for you.....you're allowed to be smug when you have news as good as this xx

FreudiansSlipper · 31/07/2013 22:40

you sound very happy and proud why should you not be enjoy :)

BatwingsAndButterflies · 31/07/2013 22:41

A couple of interviews I bombed but most I did really well but just came behind someone else for some reason. I'm not sure which type was worst in terms of emotion.

I would be very upset after ones I knew I could have done better but very cross in ones where I knew I'd shown the best of myself and they had no reason why they didn't hire me except that someone else did better.

I was never quite able to stop taking the second type of rejection personally. I would feel that they had judged me inadequate as a person to work with which is rational and irrational at the same time lol.

Great City - studied there and worked there later on too :) By Co-incidence rather than planning, we now live in the same county. wish I lived nearer S actually, my nearest is D - which , no matter how hard it tries, has no great biz community, buzz or culture about it. GREAT market here though :)

MammaTJ · 01/08/2013 00:01
