I'm on a facebook chat and complain group for my local area and someone has started a thread about a sex-offender only getting a lenient sentence for abusing their son.

They've since disclosed the offenders name, the area he lives in and the fact that he's 12 years old - a lot of people are asking for his actual address and the OP is umming and arrng over it, but there are a lot of threats being thrown about about torturing pedophiles etc.

Wondering whether it's worth giving 101 a call, surely if it's a 12 year old there'll be conditions about releasing his name?

i would. even if nothing omes of it at least you will have had it noted. also can you can screen shot of it?

JambalayaCodfishPie · 31/07/2013 09:18

Yes, definitely do. He's twelve years old!

Wholetthedogin · 31/07/2013 09:19

yes. please report. mob rule is not the way to go.

littlewhitebag · 31/07/2013 09:20

Dear lord you really, really need to put a stop to this. Call the police immediately and they will be able to help.

ANormalOne · 31/07/2013 09:21

Yeah on call with now.

Flobbadobs · 31/07/2013 09:23

Screen shot and police. Keep checking back and making more screen shots too. I'm damn certain this is illegal.

ANormalOne · 31/07/2013 09:27

They said it was definitely a concern and they've given me a call number and they've taken my number to call me back for any more information.

They're happily discussing torturing this kid. Sad

a 12 year old sex offender. ...I can't bare the idea that a child who should be so innocent at this age is a sex offender. So I need to worry about pubescent kids aswell as adults when considering my daughters safety! ?

ANormalOne · 31/07/2013 09:51

Yeah, no-one knows the circumstances of what actually happened. As far as I know he might not even have been convicted of a sex offense and this person is sharing his name simply because she doesn't like him.

OP posts:
gordyslovesheep · 31/07/2013 10:01

Yes report it please ...even if this is true he is a CHILD ...also take a screen shot of the fb page ...they are making threats to kill a child which makes them equally scummy

Petunia I have been involved in case with children as young as 8 :(

ANormalOne · 31/07/2013 10:15

I have screenshotted the entire thread now, so if they get in touch I can provide them with it. Just didn't want to report something and waste their time, but yeah, he's 12, he's a child, he should have anonymity.

OP posts:
missmarplestmarymead · 31/07/2013 10:54

You must 'phone. it sounds as if a mob mentality is being whipped up. As other posters have suggested, take a shot of the screen, as they could take it down at any moment.

ANormalOne · 31/07/2013 10:56

I've phoned, the police called me back and I've sent them the screenshots of the chat - so they'll hopefully deal with it. If she really is the mother of the victim then it won't be too difficult to track her down.

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking · 31/07/2013 10:58

Sorry if I have read this incorrectly but you say he got a lenient sentence for abusing his son, but he is 12?

How can a 12yo have a son? Confused

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking · 31/07/2013 11:00

oh I get it now Blush it was the mother of the abused son.

ANormalOne · 31/07/2013 11:00

The woman claimed the 12 year old had abused her son and got a lenient (non custodial) sentence and that she was releasing his name so he got what he deserved.

There's over 600 people in this group.

OP posts:
Mabelface · 31/07/2013 11:01

Yes, you have read it incorrectly. The 12 year old got a lenient sentence for abusing the poster's son.

Mabelface · 31/07/2013 11:01

As in the poster on the group, not the OP here.

cornypepper · 31/07/2013 11:05

I hope the police get it sorted out before his identity is revealed

Justforlaughs · 31/07/2013 11:10

You definitely did the right thing OP, the police would far rather have this brought to their attention now, rather than after something happens.

Whothefuckfarted · 31/07/2013 11:12

The mob is probably thinking along the lines of Robert Thompson and Jon Venables who were 10 at the time they murdered a 2 year old boy.

Obviously a crime apart from what this 12 year old has done (as he got a lenient sentence I'm presuming he was guilty) but the details get lost in the wash when a mob takes over.

Definitely report and let the police deal with it. At the end of it all the mother of the abused boy will still probably spread the 12 year olds name around, but on the facebook platform it can really spread wide and fast to god knows who.

Crinkle77 · 31/07/2013 13:02

yes report. I have no time for vigilantism and people taking the law in to their own hands. There is always the threat of mistaken identity
