To ask where do I find an art smock for a child older than 5?? It seems they don't exist!

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it! Have been trawling the net for half an hour and cannot seem to find a smock for a child older than about 3-5. Are they expected not to get a speck of paint on themselves after 5 years old?

Somewhere that I can order online would be good.

Waiting in anticipation to hear from a mum in the know!

Thanks

What you need is a man's old short sleeved shirt from a charity shop, worn back to front.

Eyesunderarock · 30/07/2013 15:32

You want a proper smock?
My pupils use a man's shirt, with the sleeves cut to fit. Try the charity shops.
DS is a craft/art student, he's got a heavy duty lab coat that he uses.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/07/2013 15:33

I imagine one would be seriously easy to make. There are free patterns online.

xpost sona. Smile
Choose a winter shirt, the thicker material is more protective.

anklebitersmum · 30/07/2013 15:34

I used an old t-shirt/shirt (depends if you have older children for shirt) and sprayed with waterproof stuff.

Or try these

hothereinnit · 30/07/2013 15:34

look around school uniform suppliers (maybe private schools?)

both my dc have an art apron as part of their uniform (2 different schools).

ThreeBeeOneGee · 30/07/2013 15:35

John Lewis do them up to about age 12, in the uniform section. Also eBay.

wigglesrock · 30/07/2013 15:35

Yup, we all wore my Dads shirts backwards Smile . My dd (8) brought one in for art in school last term and also see above for Angel costume for nativity play with white tights Smile

StayAwayFromTheEdge · 30/07/2013 15:35

We get them from the school uniform shop.

jamdonut · 30/07/2013 15:36

Old men's shirts are what we suggest at school, because they cover a good deal of uniform! They are obviously not waterproof, but the waterproof aprons we have in class tend to transfer paint to uniforms when a child takes it off for someone else to have a go!

JohnnyUtah · 30/07/2013 15:37

That's because they all wear one of their dad's old shirts

hellsbellsmelons · 30/07/2013 15:38

If you want a posh one - type 'kids apron' into Amazon search and you'll find loads.

moonbells · 30/07/2013 15:39

School uniform places definitely have them, but you may pay quite a bit. They're £11.95 at DS's school shop - I got his second hand for £2!

VestandKnickers · 30/07/2013 15:40

Man's - or older brother's - shirt worn backwards. Job done!

NorkyButNice · 30/07/2013 15:42

I bought one for DS when he started reception from eBay.
