To be scared of my new boss

Snuffleupicus · 29/07/2013 12:33

I work in IT. I'm a total geek. I'm also profoundly atheist and extremely fact based.
If you don't try to convert me you'd never know but get me on topic and I'll run with it.
Havent met him yet, but just checked his linked in profile and he follows deepak chopra. Seriously. I'm supposed to respect his opinion now?
This isn't one in 100 details on his profile. This is the one and only person he has chosen to follow on linked in.
If I'd been recruiting I wouldn't have even interviewed someone with that on their linkedin profile.

I'd respect him following the new pope more tbh ( not the old one mind ).

OP posts:
Eyesunderarock · 29/07/2013 13:31

Here you go OP, now you can be safe.

Snuffleupicus · 29/07/2013 13:31

Eyesunderarock, thanks for asking.
cos he will have authority over me, and if he tries any new age stuff I'll react badly. I LOVE my job and want it to be very long term. I worry we will personality clash badly and it will impact on my job enjoyment.

OP, I don't care if the guy your boss follows on LinkedIn is a fraud, a charlatan, the next Messiah or just a very naughty boy. It makes no difference to the ability of your boss to manage a team of IT professionals.

His personal beliefs are his personal beliefs. To date, he has not forced them down your throat or - apparently - given you any reason to be "scared" of him. Therefore they are irrelevant to your workplace interactions.

Grow up and start acting like the professional you proclaim yourself to be.

DaleyBump · 29/07/2013 13:32

Nobody here is trying to convert you, yet you've just stated that Deepak Chopra "is a massive fraud." Seems like you're the one who's going to "push it."

ll31 · 29/07/2013 13:33

Yabu. And I'm glad I don't work with you as you seem so bigoted. what does it matter to you who or what anyone follows. Grow up

Snuffleupicus · 29/07/2013 13:34

Iselectausername. If its irrelevant. Why is it on his LinkedIn profile?

OP posts:
Eyesunderarock · 29/07/2013 13:35

I always knew that computers and wifi and all those invisible waves fried braincells.
I'm just off to perform a quick healing chant, align my chakras and burn some sage for purity.
You could try keeping your mouth shut and smiling if he tries to enlighten you. And just do your job?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/07/2013 13:35

Is this your first job? Because it sounds like you don't understand that in the workplace you don't start out by looking for things to argue about with your new boss.

You are coming across as very immature. Take a step back and think if you would say the same if he had posted that he was a Jew, a Muslim or a Catholic.

Go to work, do your job, respect your manager and stop trying to show off.

DaleyBump · 29/07/2013 13:35

Think this thread could be reported on the grounds of prejudice?

K8Middleton · 29/07/2013 13:37

Yeah you wanna be careful he doesn't try any woo on you. You might want to wear a crystal to protect your chakras and garlic too.

Who knows what sort of thing this maniac might do to you if he follows Deepak Chopra?!

No idea who Deepak Chopra is

Snuffleupicus · 29/07/2013 13:37

Daley, in case you hadn't noticed I'm pretty much holding up my side in this singlehandedly. I think I'm justified in stating why I have an issue with deepak

OP posts:
Eyesunderarock · 29/07/2013 13:38

I work with a boss who likes dogs and keeps trying to convert me.
Not going to happen.

Amrapaali · 29/07/2013 13:39

Lordy!! You know what they say, "When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras..>"

You are reading too much into this little bit of non-information on his LinkedIn profile and building up an elaborate show down scenario in your head.

Chill, sis (or bro, as the case may be)

{I am attempting to put two fingers up like a rapper and I've failed miserably...}

BTW, if I were you, I wouldn't be discussing the new boss at your workplace. Its fine to rant on MN, but be careful in RL...

K8Middleton · 29/07/2013 13:39

What sort of new age stuff do you think he might do? I've heard meditation is really dangerous if you drive. Do NOT get in a car with this man if you think he might go into a state of deep relaxation

Eyesunderarock · 29/07/2013 13:40

It's no good, OP. I think you ought to hand in your resignation. It's the only way to be safe. Well, that and a tinfoil hat.

Snuffleupicus · 29/07/2013 13:42

Wowser. I've reported post. It seems to be upsetting some people that I might have an issue with deepak.
Oddly, this isn't reassuring.

OP posts:
DaleyBump · 29/07/2013 13:43

You're holding up your side single-handedly because nobody else agrees with you. You're a bigot and you're the only one who doesn't seem to realise it.

Snuffleupicus · 29/07/2013 13:43

I'll potter off now, chat amongst yourselves. Ill pop back later to see if post got removed or critical MN mass gets reached.

OP posts:
Amrapaali · 29/07/2013 13:44

Ahhh, Snuffle, you have completely missed the point, eh?

Smile
WireCat · 29/07/2013 13:44

I don't think him flowing Deepak Chopra means he can put a spell on you.

You will be safe.

Don't be scared.

diddl · 29/07/2013 13:44

So, OP, you're scared of your new boss, who you haven't met yet, but now don't respect because he follows a "new age guru".

Here's the thing-he might never mention it to you!

DaleyBump · 29/07/2013 13:45

Make sure to put your tinfoil hat on before you go outside.

K8Middleton · 29/07/2013 13:45

Chill people. Tis designed to push your buttons. Take a death breathe in and...

Ohmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Potteresque97 · 29/07/2013 13:45

Hmmm if it is on the profile, it's possible your boss is a charlatan who is really just thinking they are burnishing their nice guy credentials. In any case, you must be youngish in your career if you haven't had a boss you found to be a bit of an idiot before. I work in IT, and as long as they are ok to work for, I have ignored a lot of the packaging rhetoric. Clashing with your boss is a bad idea for you. You won't hurt him but like you say, you may have to leave. Just don't rise to it. Looks or a different job if it gets clear you don't get on.
