I am just astonished how some people have such an absolute lack of filter!

I was just loading some shopping into the pushchair basket outside the shops when a woman I don't know comments, "oh dear, you don't want to be bending down like that". Wtf! It was said in such a disgusted tone as well. I replied "thank you" in a really sarcastic voice but I doubt she noticed...

Now I've lost a lot of weight recently and was wearing a new dress which I love. It's knee-length and not particularly revealing...and DS said it looked beautiful Blush (admittedly he's only 4). So now I feel really self conscious...silly I know. But, just, why would you comment like that to someone you don't know?? As you were just randomly walking past? Surely it's none of your business? And why couldn't I think of a better comeback than thank you???!

Maybe she was worried about your back if you we're bending funny)? Otherwise ignore. Congrats on losing l

What a horrible thing to say. I think you should have tackled her though (not to the ground!) and asked her exactly what she meant.

Link to the dress, please! Was she much older than you?

MissBartlett · 27/07/2013 13:49

Bloody phone - losing weight!

MissBartlett · 27/07/2013 13:50

Were not we're. Oh I give up. OP, am sure your dress was lovely!

Onesleeptillwembley · 27/07/2013 13:53

Weird timing. I saw a woman yesterday in Asda who bent over for a while looking at and getting something. She had on a skirt with a split up the back. We could see where her knickers covered her foo foo (according to hastily shut up nephewBlush ). I agonised over whether to tell her but didn't. Maybe she was nicely trying to tell you something like that. Or maybe saying be careful how you bend and lift. You're interpreting it totally the other way as you're still self conscious.

Found a link to a pic of it:

I had my back to her so it could have been a posture thing I suppose...! Thanks MissBartlett, I dropped 2 dress sizes on the 5:2 diet.

I would assume she meant you would hurt yourself, rather than you look hideous.
Are you a little selfconcious maybe?

KittyMcAllister · 27/07/2013 14:01

Maybe a little Annabelle - still it's odd to comment just walking past someone like that isn't it?

Even knee length dresses ride up when you bend... I think this is what happened

madrose · 27/07/2013 14:05

dresses plus bending over generally equates to displaying one's underwear.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 27/07/2013 14:09

If someone said that to me, I would assume they were worried about me damaging my back.

FrussoHathor · 27/07/2013 14:12

Dress doesn't look particularly revealing, or that it would show your foo-foo. So I would go with missbartlett that it was likely to be about your posture.

missmarplestmarymead · 27/07/2013 14:13

Maybe she thought you might not have been aware that you were revealing more than usual and thought to help you in the same way she might have mentioned it if your dress had become tucked into your knickers.

Personally, I would like to have either thing pointed out to me.

You sound a bit over sensitive maybe because you are not used to your new figure yet? Although showing too much isn't really anything to with one's figure. I have a good figure but I still wouldn't want to display it while putting away my shopping where anyone could be getting an eyeful.

She has told you and now you know but then it really is up to you. She isn't the clothes police.

hermioneweasley · 27/07/2013 14:15

I assume that if bending from the waist, your skirt rode up at the back and showed off most of your legs and possibly your bum. Anything above the knee tends to do that IME.

AnnabelleLee · 27/07/2013 14:20

some people have no filter. Also, being gobby gets worse as you get older, I find Blush gonna be one of those old dears giving everyone advice on buses

HoneyDragon · 27/07/2013 14:26

Sounds to me like you were being told off for your posture.

SarahStrattonIsBackForJustABit · 27/07/2013 14:28

I love that dress!

Whothefuckfarted · 27/07/2013 14:28

I think she was jealous of how good you look in your new dress, or being a wee bitch because she may or may not have had a 1 or 2 second flash of your undies! Grin

HeySoulSister · 27/07/2013 14:31

Lovely dress but yes, it probably rode up!

How tall are you op?

youarewinning · 27/07/2013 14:35

I immediately thought back rather than arse or tits hanging out - from what she said.

Your meant to bend at the knees Grin

diddl · 27/07/2013 14:56

Were you wearing pants?

If so-forget it!

ClartyCarol · 27/07/2013 15:00

Can someone do a clickable link to the dress? I'm on my phone and it's a pita. Thanks.

Shenanagins · 27/07/2013 15:01

From your post i assumed she was talking about your posture. Agree with others it could be highlighting a knicker issue instead - have you checked this out with your dress?

FrussoHathor · 27/07/2013 15:03
