I am just astonished how some people have such an absolute lack of filter!

I was just loading some shopping into the pushchair basket outside the shops when a woman I don't know comments, "oh dear, you don't want to be bending down like that". Wtf! It was said in such a disgusted tone as well. I replied "thank you" in a really sarcastic voice but I doubt she noticed...

Now I've lost a lot of weight recently and was wearing a new dress which I love. It's knee-length and not particularly revealing...and DS said it looked beautiful Blush (admittedly he's only 4). So now I feel really self conscious...silly I know. But, just, why would you comment like that to someone you don't know?? As you were just randomly walking past? Surely it's none of your business? And why couldn't I think of a better comeback than thank you???!

I track it's either:
A) she could see your pants
B) she was jealous of your lovely slimline arse
C) she's one of those bizarre people who think everyone wants to hear their opinion.
D) all of the above.

RandallPinkFloyd · 27/07/2013 15:06

Love the dress btw!

maja00 · 27/07/2013 15:06

Bending over in dresses = undercarriage on display

KittyMcAllister · 27/07/2013 15:17

Thanks for the comments about the dress - I am 5'2" btw. I will try to be more careful about bending for my back AND my dignity's sake! Grin

I bet it was a back related comment. I get bad backs and will tell people to be careful of their backs if I see them lifting something heavy or whatever. I would say it nicely though.

Pagwatch · 27/07/2013 17:04

I bet it was back related.
Once you have knackered your back you get obsessed. I couldn't look at the karma sutra now without thinking 'god, she's going to pay for that in the morning if she's not careful'

digerd · 27/07/2013 17:06

Maxi length or calf length would not show knickers but knee length would. It was always recommended for the health of your back to crouch with a straight back rather than bend over from the waist.

But crouching would mean the hem of the skirt/dress would be on the dirty ground. Unless you can do the ski bend where you go half way down but tuck your bum in, not backwardsSmile Got to have very strong thighs to do that.

WipsGlitter · 27/07/2013 17:15

Bend down in front of a mirror. Can you see your Knicks? Undercarriage? There's your answer.

WipsGlitter · 27/07/2013 17:15

Lovely dress btw.

scarletforya · 27/07/2013 17:18

She saw your bum!

Mamafratelli · 27/07/2013 17:22

Bend at the knees in dresses. I have seen a lot of knickers this summer and flashed my bum far too often bending in reasonably long dresses.

SleepyFish · 27/07/2013 17:31

Lovely dress, I almost bought a very similar one from zara last week but it was just a wee bit too see through for my liking.
I'm forever seeing peoples bum cleavage when they bend down in jeans but I wouldn't dream of saying anything. Saying that, that could change when I get older. Old people really do not seem to have a filter, it's one of the things I'm looking forward to Grin

An old man in the street told my SIL the reason her child was having a tantrum was because he'd had too much chocolate! It was 8.30am, he hadn't had any chocolate.

badguider · 27/07/2013 17:35

Lovely dress but I think you might have flashed your pants at her! :)

candycoatedwaterdrops · 27/07/2013 17:49

Oooh what a lovely dress! I also think it's likely she saw some arseage but don't worry about it, she'll get over it. Wink

figrus · 27/07/2013 18:21

So you have a belly? I assumed she thought you were pregnant and she was advising you not to bend over like that to protect your 'bump'

figrus · 27/07/2013 18:23

Sorry that was meant to say 'do you have a belly?' well done on losing weight

ClartyCarol · 28/07/2013 01:11

Thanks Frusso that is a nice dress. Would do nowt for me it's very cute.

ClartyCarol · 28/07/2013 01:11

...but it's very cute.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/07/2013 01:14

Are you sure she didn't just mean you were bending over incorrectly? As in you were bending from the easier rather than your hips?

WafflyVersatile · 28/07/2013 01:18

She definitely saw your bum.

Don't bend down like that in a knee length dress, however much weight you lose.

MerylStrop · 28/07/2013 01:23

Very cute dress

She was either under the osteopath herself and very conscious of back health

OR, more likely, she saw a whole lot of pants she didn't need to.

So she was trying to do you a favour.

In skirts one must bend from the knee.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/07/2013 01:42

*knees even.

TylerHopkins · 28/07/2013 02:23

You're gonna have to bend down in front of your bedroom mirror and see what she saw Grin. Make sure no one's around, it might look kinky!

Iaintdunnuffink · 28/07/2013 07:07

I'd have thought it was a comment abut your back. Some people are obsessed with telling you to be careful if they see you pick something up.
