Got Parking Tickets - My husband only knows about 1 of them

I got a PCN notice for doing a no right-turn just before a round-about. I think I did it about 5 times in the space of 2 weeks. I didn't realise it was a no right-turn as I saw everyone else turning there as well - and to be honest I didn't notice the sign there either.

I got a Penalty notice last Tuesday sent to me at home. The charge is £130 but will be reduced to £65 if paid within 2 weeks. My husband said not to worry and we will pay it when we get paid on Wednesday this week. The next day I got another one sent to my door for the same amount of money - I didn't tell my husband as he would of got very hot-tempered about it.

I haven't had any more through the post since Wednesday. If I got caught on the camera does anyone think that I would of got more sent since Wednesday or not?

Yes I know I should of told my husband of the 2nd penalty notice but as I say he would of got very hot-tempered about it.

when you say hot tempered, what do you mean? are you afraid?

you have to pay so how are you going to do that? are you planning to pay without telling him?

First of all go and have a look to see if there is a visible road sign. If it is obscured in any way take a photo and send it to the council and plead not guilty.

If you were caught on camera you will almost certainly be getting a ticket.

If the signage is poor then collect evidence and try to dispute it, otherwise you need to improve your driving. The golden rule of driving is to assume every driver is an idiot (because most of them are), don't just copy others without thinking about it for yourself.

Was this in London? There are cameras everywhere, enforcing many banned turns.

are you scared of your husband? Does he act as if he's your boss?

Or is it just that you are both on a very tight budget and he'll be pissed off that you are throwing money away?

Lesson to be learnt from this OP. Can your parents help (mine would). In the meantime go and check out the signage. And start salting away a cppouple of quid each week for emergencies. This is why financial independence is so important. Remembers flute (school's) I left on the kerb whilst sorting out the dc's bags. Did I tell DH - no of course not.

And I don't think not wanting to tell your DH means you are in a fearful situation at all - he will have a shout ( mine a silent sulk with comments about my idiocy) and you want to avoid the inevitable accusation that you have been a bit of an idiot because you have and it's worse when you know it.

I think most people's partners, male or female, would be pretty pissed off if their spouse came home with £650 of motoring fines.

My DH would be pissed off. I'd hide it out of shame. OP - that's pretty rubbish driving.

I would check the sign as well, in case you have grounds for appeal. Also you may get more help on Pepipoo

Well, they have two weeks to send them out. How do you plan to pay without telling your husband?

You can try appealing, and the Council usually keep the fine to the lower amount while it's being investigated, but if the signage is clear you don't hold much of a chance of it being waived.

You didn't notice the sign, and the camera is usually very obvious as well. They are probably there because it's dangerous to turn right at that location. An accident that is entirely your fault would cost you a lot more than a PCN or two. You really do need to brush up your driving skills.

I know someone that got 3 speeding tickets in a day, same set of cameras (got caught going from a to b, b to a, and a to b again). He wrote and explained that he thought it was still a 50 limit (ignoring the fact that on the a to b route, the change is in orange Tarmac on the road and there's about 5 30 signs by the side of the road in about 500m!), and they reduced it to one fine, you could try something like that?

As someone else said, they have 2 weeks to send them out - not that you have to receive them in 2 weeks, just they have to send them.

Lusty - I'd always thought the only choice with NIPs was to accept the penalty or to go to court to dispute them. Was it maybe the clerk of the court he wrote to before the case was heard?

If so, perhaps OP could try that - refuse to accept the penalties (if more come) and go through the court to try to reduce them?

I live in London and have been driving here for ten years, I get a PCN 2 - 3 times a year, it's easily done, there are so many rules here and you have to think so fast.

OP he is your husband NOT your Dad!
