... should have at least a tiny clue about how the internet works?

Well, apparently not.

This is rather embarassing.

Ooooooops......................... Shock

antimatter · 24/07/2013 22:33

thanks for sharing - this shows that memorising few terms is not enough :)

MurderOfGoths · 24/07/2013 23:11

Even a tiny clue would be be better than this.

But then, she's not doing it because she knows anything about the internet, she has other motivations. And Safer Media's co-founder is also deeply involved in a group who are have been urging their members to not vote for MPs who have previously voted in favour of
-abortion
-sex education being compulsory

So yeah, they'd be totally devastated by a filter that blocked access to sex education resources for youngsters..

WidowWadman · 25/07/2013 06:41

Murder - I wasn't aware of that. So it's not just as bad as I thought it was, but worse. Why are people buying this?

MurderOfGoths · 25/07/2013 08:02

Because they've been spinning it to make it seem that anyone who is anti the porn block is pro-porn and wants children to see it. If they dropped the emotive terminology I think less people would go for it.

ClayDavis · 25/07/2013 08:54

Also, most people have about as much of a clue about how the internet works as Claire Perry does. If you don't know how it works it seems like a bit of a no brainer - block porn at its source, only opt in if you want porn. If only it were that simple.

WidowWadman · 25/07/2013 19:10

Fair point clay, thing is the mainstream media reported the ludicrous idea fairly uncritically. I just despair at people not asking the right questions.

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 25/07/2013 19:16

It bugs me. I don't look at porn but I'll be damned if some stupid (very stupid it would now appear) cow is going to tell me what I can access on the internet.

If I want to google huge cocks all day I will!

Justforlaughs · 25/07/2013 19:27

YANBU to think that she should have some idea of how the internet works, YABU to think that anyone the government employs actually does have any idea about the department that they are in charge of. Do you really think that Mr Gove has any idea about the education system, or that Mr Osborne has any idea about economics etc etc?

YouTheCat · 25/07/2013 19:28

Good point. I'd say it's pretty obvious that neither of them has a clue about their areas.

quoteunquote · 25/07/2013 19:29

Typical, why is it they don't seem to be able to access anyone who knows what they are doing?

Justforlaughs · 25/07/2013 19:34

quoteunquoteBecause none of them have ever lived in the real world. We should have a law that states that any MP should have been an employee for a certain number of years before being allowed to stand, and that any Minister should have some experience/ qualification in their area of "expertise". We might then stand a chance of getting some common sense in there.

quoteunquote · 25/07/2013 19:58

The tactic of sticking their fingers in their ears and singing when anyone with logic or scientific knowledge tries to advice them is tedious.

MurderOfGoths · 25/07/2013 23:23

It really really is.

SueDoku · 25/07/2013 23:44

Ah, but like IDS they 'believe'........ Angry

MurderOfGoths · 25/07/2013 23:47

It's ludicrous isn't it? If I said I "believe" I can walk through walls no one would take me seriously, why are they being taken seriously for something equally nonsensical.
