Took dc to town today, we had a lovely time, I bought them a magazine each and ice cream. Went to the library and each chose books.
We came home and one of the magazines had silly putty type stuff as a free gift.
Ds threw it at the wall, marking the paintwork. I told him not to do it again as it had caused damage, if he wanted to throw it he should do it outside.

Dd then threw it inside, ds threw it inside again. Putty is now in the bin, they've been sent to their rooms and all tech devices are banned until tomorrow.
They had the bloody cheek to give me lip, saying they didn't hear my request not to throw it!

YANBU, what a lovely start to the holidays!

Kat101 · 24/07/2013 16:37

How old are they?

Seems reasonable for about 5 upwards

CeliaFate · 24/07/2013 16:38

They're 10 and 12.

I don't fucking believe it! I've just seen ds in the garden, he climbed out of his (downstairs) bedroom window.
WTF? WWYD if you were me? I'm fed up of shouting and punishing them and it's day fucking 3.

Don't your windows need to be cleaned? I'm sure there are plenty of jobs for children who can't entertain themselves in a reasonable manner.

YouTheCat · 24/07/2013 17:05

Jobs and lots of them.

They can earn their treats and gadgets back.

CeliaFate · 24/07/2013 17:09

I've just sent them to hoover and polish upstairs. I'm really disappointed in them. Now I just feel really shit and wish I hadn't bothered taking them anywhere. Sad

YouTheCat · 24/07/2013 17:11

Don't feel shit. You aren't the one behaving badly.

Set them chores for the rest of the week and put your feet up with some of those books. Wink

ApocalypseThen · 24/07/2013 17:21

Yep, sounds like they've marked walls to wash down and footprints/pawprints to clean off windows. And they might as well finish the job and do them all while they've the buckets out.

CeliaFate · 24/07/2013 17:51

They're hoovering the upstairs now. They're contrite only because I've said there's a chance they won't be going to Legoland this weekend now, unless their behaviour improves.

The marks will come off with those magic erasers. I know this because I too have a fucking child who did the same. Hmm

Raaaaah! Also have a child who just can't/doesn't/won't listen...

CeliaFate · 24/07/2013 18:19

Good to know I'm not alone. Smile

not good. sounds like a long school holiday for you. im a nanny and im finding children are becomming more ungrateful and unappreciate lately. whatever u give them they always want more. im trying to find a balance between not spoiling them and doing things every day, to not being bored (myself too) and making the most of the holidays. i also dont want to be the mean one who never treats because the parents do, but it is a downer on your day when you give them a nice one and they throw it back in your face. even little things like giving an ice lolly as a treat as its a nice day and they have been good, the little one just says more, as soon as he finishes (he stole his mums today) and then expects it the next day. but because they arent my children i cant rein it in. Long school holidays Grin

TimeofChange · 24/07/2013 21:18

Celia: Do they go out to play with friends?

RandomMess · 24/07/2013 21:24

Can I just say that silly putty stuff is banned from my house and the dc still brought some home with them at one point and ruined an expensive bedding set with it Angry hate the stuff!

CeliaFate · 24/07/2013 21:26

Since they broke up on Friday we've been out for a meal, to the cinema, had a sleepover and a barbecue. It seems the more they have, the more they want.
They've been well behaved all evening, let's see what tomorrow brings!
