I popped into a pub this afternoon for a wee and a pint and they had a Royal Baby Name sweepstake board behind the bar.

Someone had suggested 'Dodi.' Grin

Who is Tony?!

valiumredhead · 27/07/2013 19:17

Not evil but a dangerous lose cannon.

valiumredhead · 27/07/2013 19:17

Loose-auto correct!

valiumredhead · 27/07/2013 19:17

Tony Blair

usualsuspect · 27/07/2013 19:17

Tony Blair.

Angelfootprints · 27/07/2013 19:31

You think she was a loose canon, or just the Royals?

valiumredhead · 27/07/2013 19:40

She was.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 19:43

Did I get the wrong end of the stick with your "psychopath" comment, Angel? Were you referring to Queen, et al, and NOT to the poster(s) on this thread? In that case, I'm sorry. You should have corrected me when I retorted.

However, I must point out that using that word is a bit iffy - I'm sure, as objectionable I find the royal family, that they are most probably not actual psychopaths (or "almost" psychopaths) by either the DSM or popular definition. This kind of language is going to hurt any cause by lowering the tone and being totally inappropriate.

Also, the discussing/critiquing the monarchy in the context of (or through the opportunity presented by) the latest royal publicity surge does not mean that anyone is a baby hater. The false and utterly ridiculous accusations really need to stop.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 19:48

I believe that the Queen probably was a bit sad (mainly for her GSons), but relieved, as well, when Diana died. That doesn't make someone psychopathic.

Angelfootprints · 27/07/2013 19:53

No it was too that one poster but not connected to her being a republican.

The word psychopath does not lower the tone, its perfectably acceptable in discussing someone with an abnormal lack empathy- even if you dont like the word.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 19:57

That is not the definition of a psychopath.

Angelfootprints · 27/07/2013 20:00

Yep it is. It is one of the defining characteristics.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 20:07

Only in the context of several other things, meaning that genuine psychopaths are most commonly found in prisons. It is not a word to be bandied around with little evidence.

I don't find it that pathological that the Queen was most probably relieved (as well as sad for gradsons) when Diana died, as she was causing her massive headaches.

Angelfootprints · 27/07/2013 20:32

I didnt say the Queen was a psycho- I said if somebody believed she wasn't saddened in any way at all, did they think this meant she was a psychopathic?

Interesting you think psychopaths must all be in prisons. I do know a number of people in very, very high powered jobs that give them enormous wealth and they tick more than one characteristic off....

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 20:40

I didn't say all, but many, as the extreme lack of empathy together with irresponsibility and manipulative, grandiose tendencies very often (if not always) lead to violence or other severe criminal behaviour (but don't take it from me - it was the professor giving the course on personality and related pathology who said this on the prisons etc). Severe impulsivity and lack of behavioural controls means that a genuine psychopath couldn't last long as an executive. There might be some that could be bordering on a diagnosis, but I don't think the Queen is one (unless she is extraordinarily well managed and guarded).

Merely a lack of empathy is not indicative of psychopathy. Otherwise you could lump anyone in the ASD spectrum (for example) there. And nothing strange about not being devastated about someone you do not like, or get along with, dying.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 20:47

I, personally, reckon the queen is a robot. You know how the way the smile looks a bit disingenuous and fake and badly programmed? And how stiff the wave is? Just saying.. Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/07/2013 20:53

Weren't the Goulds parasites who lived inside host jaffas? Kim

That's a far more believable take on the "The Royals are lizard people" theory Grin

allaflutter · 27/07/2013 21:02

Toys, wouldn't you be artificial if you had to do this out of duty for years on end, whether you enjoy the event/company of particular people, or not? of course she performs out of duty in a robot-like fashion (but it's just politeness, not overly stiff), and when she does enjoy herself, it's visible.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 21:05

Alla: I don't know, and I'll never get the chance to try the role for myself as I'm not one of the Saxe-Coburg (robot Grin ) clan.

usualsuspect · 27/07/2013 21:06

I always thought the queen mother was an android.

I think she had been dead for years before she officially popped off.

ToysRLuv · 27/07/2013 21:07

I like her memorial garden in Edinburgh. I always think of gin when I'm there with DS.

valiumredhead · 27/07/2013 21:12

I think you should read The Psychopath Test angelWink

allaflutter · 27/07/2013 21:13

yes, Toys I realise this and good for you imo, as I don't envy their very dull life, but I can't see how anyone would be surprised that she appears robotic sometimes - lots of people in high powered jobs aer like this (go through the motions as all eyes are on them), she's not a robot though - see the videos when she is with her dc/h when younger - she's full of life there.
