I popped into a pub this afternoon for a wee and a pint and they had a Royal Baby Name sweepstake board behind the bar.

Someone had suggested 'Dodi.' Grin

BuntCadger · 25/07/2013 19:30

BuntCadger · 25/07/2013 19:31

That was to marmalade bit the < things made it blank

DomesticCEO · 25/07/2013 19:33

Go and live in America????

Er, why the fuck should I have to move to America?

It's good to know that royalists don't really understand the concept of democracy - I suppose it's the only way they can swallow all this shit!

ToysRLuv · 25/07/2013 19:39

But it's fun, Domestic! The royals are soo much fun that it makes you forget about all the boring democracy bollocks. Don't be a killjoy!

DomesticCEO · 25/07/2013 19:50

Grin Toys, sorry, silly me - any time I'm feeling down watching the news about the devastation caused by the recession or reading the local paper about yet another food bank being established I only have to think about William single handedly rescuing people in Wales or Kate and her swishy hair or the queen and her dazzling smile and I doff my cap and feel all is right with the world again.

Silly old me eh?!

YouTheCat · 25/07/2013 19:51

Gawd bless 'em Grin

Ilovemyself · 25/07/2013 19:55

DomesticCEO. I bet the queen has worked harder for her whole live out of a sense of duty to the country than most people ever will. And as such she brings much to the country in the way of tourist revenue. And yes the royal family do help grease the wheels of business, like it or not.

And yes we understand democracy. And we are thankful we have it as it shows silly little republicans that their view is outnumbered.

So yes, if you dislike the monarchy that much feel free to toddle off!

Ilovemyself · 25/07/2013 19:56

Oh, and domestic. Some people like things to take their mind off the drudge and a feel good story like this helps........

ToysRLuv · 25/07/2013 20:03

Republics have no feel good stories and fuck all tourism. Fact

BuntCadger · 25/07/2013 20:07

Of course CEO, without the monarchy they'd be all sunshine and rainbows. I mean look at France, America or any thee republic. There's not financial issues for people there, no class divide and definitely no poverty. Fgs get real!

YouTheCat · 25/07/2013 20:07

Would you say the same to someone born into and oppressive regime? Should they just 'toddle off' too?

How very silly.

Ilovemyself · 25/07/2013 20:10

An oppressive regime is entirely different.

YouTheCat · 25/07/2013 20:11

Are you queen of the world who gets to tell people who don't share your views where they can live?

BuntCadger · 25/07/2013 20:14

Oh goodness I feel so oppressed! Not. Just extreme bs argument to try and drive home a point of view that is not shared by the majority... Oh hang on, does that mean we live in a democratic country with a monarchy. How utterly shocking.

ToysRLuv · 25/07/2013 20:14

Bunt: Getting rid of the Monarchy is only the first of many steps towards real equality. Doesn't mean it's not worth taking. On the contrary. In fact it would be hugely symbolic as a driver for a better society. Did you forget about all the republics where things are better than in the US? Or maybe you're not very well informed. Things can be better, but the general public has to first see the light. Here is where these discussions come in.

Ledkr · 25/07/2013 20:15

You can dislike things about your country of birth without having to go and live in America.
Can you imagine if everyone emigrated as soon as they disagreed with the politics of their home country.
Frankly a ridiculous thing to say.
It's a democracy you know, people's opinions can differ without them being banished from the country!

flippinada · 25/07/2013 20:15

I think when people start chucking round statements like "go and live elsewhere if you don't like it" (that's me using polite phraseology) you can safely say a reasonable discussion is not on the cards.

Ilovemyself · 25/07/2013 20:17

Youthecat. No, it was simply a suggestion that if the poster doesn't like the monarchy in this democracy they could always vote with their feet.

And I have been called a queen from time to time........

valiumredhead · 25/07/2013 20:18

Yes flip, quite!

For starters do people not know how hard it is to get a green card?Grin

YouTheCat · 25/07/2013 20:19

Wonderful. Why don't you start your own country then?

ToysRLuv · 25/07/2013 20:20

But, equality is not important is it, when there are royal births to celebrate and royal gardens to open, etc. Plus, one of the royals could visit your child's school or your workplace some time in the next century, and you wouldn't want to miss those precious minutes of glimpsing an privileged, patronising person cutting a ribbon and receiving a bunch of flowers throwing them in the bin around the corner , would you?

Ilovemyself · 25/07/2013 20:21

Oh Valium. I wish there was a like button lol

BuntCadger · 25/07/2013 20:23

I have suggested living elsewhere, however listing all the republic countries was top of my agenda, as there are many with a monarchy doing well too.

This has been debated (which is fine) time and again and the majority of ppl want to retain the monarchy and as it stands, I agree. Now debate all you like about the benefits of republicanism and there are some. However a thread started like this was on poor taste and takes away a vast amount of respect or credibility for the arguments that have developed. And the 'bitterness' that seems to ooze from some posts makes me disinterested in any message that is trying to be asserted

BuntCadger · 25/07/2013 20:23

Have not suggested Grin
