really though, how do we know he actually doesn't eat for a week? Just his word for it? I also thought that it was an actual hunger strike rather than a week long fast. And is that totally no food at all? That could actually make you quite ill. [doesn't give a shit emoticon]

Eyesunderarock · 23/07/2013 18:19

I think he finished it yesterday anyway, not that anyone knew.

'Frankie Boyle has gone on hunger strike with a number of old celebrities to raise public awareness of a group of sad, hopeless, forgotten individuals.....
....Themselves.....'

limitedperiodonly · 23/07/2013 18:20

Good point coco87

I'd like to ask Frankie Boyle what offended him. Maybe he'd say nothing, but then I wonder that if you're not offended by things, how you can be moved to campaign for or against them.

It's a genuine question.

But seeing as he's not here, can I ask his supporters what offends them that they would protest about?

You can ask me the same if you like, but it would make my post a bit long to go into it right now.

sickofsocalledexperts · 23/07/2013 18:23

Gosh Branlieuse, if you have kids with disabilities wtf are you doing on here defending FB for saying disabled kids are nutters who will rape their own mums, given half a chance.

They are all our sons, in the words of Arthur Miller

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 23/07/2013 18:29

I don't think he is in the slightest bit funny. But I have to admit that he is very sharp and seems to be very intelligent. I'd like to let him loose on Katie Hopkins - he'd tear her to pieces.

Branleuse · 23/07/2013 18:43

if you cant understand the concept of gallows humour or black humour, then I can't help you.

its just saying shocking stuff for a laugh. its not actually real.

Eyesunderarock · 23/07/2013 18:45

It is real, Harvey is a real person. Confused
Or are you one of those that see no difference between 'Criminal Minds' and Jeffrey Dahmer? It's all just entertainment.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/07/2013 18:49

So rape jokes are black humour? Really?

thebody · 23/07/2013 18:51

that isn't 'gallows humour or black humour' though is it.

you are confused.

limitedperiodonly · 23/07/2013 18:57

I most definitely understand the concept of gallows humour branleuse

There was none of it involved in that Jordan/Harvey Price comment.

Branleuse · 23/07/2013 18:57

ok so im not allowed to find him funny.

I shall bear it in mind.

Treagues · 23/07/2013 19:00

I heard on the radio the other day that he spends a lot of time getting angry at people who don't understand the nature of comedy.

That's handy, isn't it? He can make whatever public statement he wants to about disabled children, call it a "joke", and we are the thickos who don't get it. No wonder he's cross.

limitedperiodonly · 23/07/2013 19:00

And you can make sick jokes about real people.

Terry Waite and Nelson Mandela are real people and IMO that joke was funny.

Suggesting Harvey Price was going to fuck his mother, even if that meant fuck up her career (please) wasn't.

thebody · 23/07/2013 19:01

no your allowed to find him funny but I am allowed to day he's a cunt and that I can't understand your sense if humour in laughing at a named disabled child and a rape/ insest scenario.

just hateful.

limitedperiodonly · 23/07/2013 19:02

You're allowed to find that joke funny branleuse

I'm allowed to marvel at your standards of wit.

SlangWhanger · 23/07/2013 19:14

FFS Its not about whether its funny or not - its about whether or not it is ok to joke about a named child who has disabilities and can't defend himself.

Branleuse DOES think that this is ok. Most other people don't.

Branleuse I am still interested to know if you think it is a good thing that Harvey can't understand the 'joke' and defend himself or whether you
would still think it is an acceptable joke to make if he COULD understand?

coco87 · 23/07/2013 19:26

He isn't funny, he isn't a comedian. He is someone who makes shocking statements to get publicity and then calls them "jokes". He makes stupid, ignorant comments about people with disabilities, rape etc and the Guardian fawn all over him because he supports the Guardian's holy cows such as Guantanamo.

And don't dare call FB a racist (even as a "joke") as apparently he doesn't find personal attacks (like the one he made against Harvey) funny when they are aimed at him.

Nasty, shitty little waste of breath.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/07/2013 19:31

Would it be acceptable if FB made a joke about someone raping Harvey, Branleuse? The vast majority would say no, but given that your moral compass is so much more lax....

Eyesunderarock · 23/07/2013 19:36

'So you'd be fine if you yourself were the target of some FB-style humour Branleuse?
Specifically aimed at your personal instabilities, weaknesses and problems?
And using your real name?'

Didn't get an answer to this either.

sickofsocalledexperts · 23/07/2013 19:43

I think what upset me about the "joke", very precisely, is that is is aimed at all those medieval, atavistic views about those with mental disabilities: that they are dangerous, hypersexualised, a danger to normal folk. It is attitudes like this which led to abuse of the disabled through history, and which still contribute to abuse, bullying and even murder today. It dehumanises the disabled, meaning normal rules don't apply and people feel free to throw stones or abuse. It is happening on buses every day - "retard" "mong".

I also find it cowardly - that right-on comics like FB will throw massive flounces if accused of racism, even suing a paper. But the disabled? Fair game, as still not governed by the pc rules. Is it cos a 9 year old autistic boy can't harm FB, but a gang of grown men of different races could. Can't stand cowards and hypocrites.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/07/2013 21:40

Took me a while to click on this thread, felt I had to build up courage. I'm glad a few posters have made their incredibly vile opinions known. I know, now that any of their opinions are suspect. And that the vast majority of posters have disagreed with them.

Guantanamo is a disgrace. Horrible to think this goes on in a supposedly 'civilised' world led and endorsed by nation that is so influential.

I'm glad it's being discussed but I have no doubt that FB is just jumping on the bandwagon to try to get people to forget his deeply offensive and dehumanising 'humour' and get himself back in decent society's good books. I will never forget his comments and his lack of apology for them. I'd call him a cunt but he lacks the warmth and depth and it would be insulting to cunts.

Eliza22 · 23/07/2013 22:02

I hope he starves. To death.

missmarplestmarymead · 23/07/2013 23:37

No, Branleuse, you are not allowed to find it funny in a decent society and I really do think there must be little want, a little softness in the brain, with those who do.

I hope he stays on his hunger strike for ever-the noxious little shit.

Eliza22 · 24/07/2013 07:44

Hear hear, MissMarple! I have a child with a disability. There's nothing funny about it, at all. For anyone who thinks I'm over sensitive, how's about I throw in a few Irish/Rag Head/FatPeople/Nigger jokes?

Not so funny now, hey?

Keep it up, Mr Boyle. You're a waste of space.

SoupDragon · 24/07/2013 09:37

if you cant understand the concept of gallows humour or black humour, then I can't help you.

I do understand them both. The FB "joke" about Harvey was neither gallows humour or black humour. It was specifically directed at a particular innocent, vulnerable child. It was simply an attack, not a joke.

I can not believe you would find a joke funny if it was about one of your children needing to be physically restrained so they don't fuck you.
