to buy a new comfort teddy for ds 3.3?

Travelling to visit parents in Spain next month. Carry on cases at 10kg only. Suitcase in hold is I think £40 each way. Ds 3.3 sleeps clutching a huge pillow pet unicorn even through this heatwave. He is very attached to 'Pinky'. AIBU to ask my parents to buy a new 'Pinky' from Amazon Europe at ?17. The alternative is £80 FOR a big suitcase or
Trying to jam all our stuff into the 4 tiny carry on cases with a unicorn hogging most of one case. Am I being daft?

DD2(then 4) chose a much smaller soft toy at the MW services, when we decided her usual cuddly was too big, to take for a couple of days at a wedding.

This is 8 days in Spain without his main cuddly item? last year he was surgically attached to a bumble bee a quarter the size (but heavy as it was a microwave wheat bag thingy). We'd tried an overnighter before the holiday without it but he cried at bedtime for it so we took it to Spain after all.

Just let him carry on plane. It won't be counted as luggage if not in bag, and no one will take a teddy from a child before boarding a plane!

I have heard that ryanair can stoop very low... Allegedly.

I would reimburse my parents. I don't think UK people can buy on amazon Europe without European bank account.

I order from amazon in Germany, France and USA all the time. I log on to the appropriate site with my uk email and password. You should be fine to order yourself without getting your parents to do it.

Would a new one smell/feel the same anyway? Is it more feasible to introduce 'Pinky's little brother who needs taking to Spain.

I would try for a smaller "friend". My DS1 loved all four of his teletubbies and would not be parted with them, when we went abroad we had to convince him that it would be a treat for the teletubbie he took and that the teletubbie would be albe to tell his friends all about it when he got home....it did work and it was much easier keeping track of one rather than all four of the sodding things

If you are staying with your parents can you not cut back a bit on clothes to take with you and wash stuff while you are over there? I would be worried that a new toy would be rejected as not the real thing and then you will be left with a distraught toddler (my 2 year old has the ladybird pillow pet, it takes up half her bed but she won't be parted from it).

I wouldn't risk him carrying it on, Ryan air reduced an old lady to tears in front of me as they wouldnt let her carry a prescription bag with medication on and it wouldn't fit in her handbag. this was a small white paper bag of medication btw so I imagine that they would be difficult about Pinky.

I would get one delivered to your parents, or if they do them in different colours get a different coloured one and say that it is Pinky's brother/sister.

Yes, I think that's a good idea to to one delivered to your mum.

My dd was similarly attached to a giant stuffed Winnie The Pooh. We spent many a holiday journey with it strapped into the middle back seat of the car. He came every where with us. However we didn't fly and if we had I would have panicked!

I'm not sure Savoy's idea is a good one.

My dd would have been traumatised if I'd de-stuffed Winnie. She would have had a face like this-->[shocked]

Could you get one of those space saving suck all the air out storage bags? I use them for winter duvets etc and they reduce the size of stuff really well.

Well I spoke to my parents who thought I was bonkers. Another Google and I found a magical unicorn pee wee ie a Pinky measuring 11" instead of original Pinky who is 18". Cost £9.99, P&P free. And DS will have a week or 2 to make mini Pinky smell homely! Now for the important jobs, like an EHIC for DD. Thanks all.
