to wonder about "outing yourself"

Does anyone ever think "I know soandso in real life"? I read everyone's post and often reply to individuals, but I wouldn't remember that the person with 3 kids on one thread, is the same one who's husband had an affair on another. That 3 weeks ago, she posted that her MIL had broken down and borrowed the car and so on and on, and then put all pieces together to think "oh, that's my neighbour down the road". Are some people just paranoid about being "outed" or do I just not spend enough time pay enough attention on here?

I have a fairly public name, as anyone who knows me well will know. This is mostly because my sister (hi sis!) mentioned a specific thread on AIBU that seemed like something I could have written.

I do think I could probably have written half the threads on MN, given enough time except the unreasonable MILs cos mine's lovely but as I only ever post banal things here for the chat I don't mind being correctly identified, whereas I DO mind being incorrectly identified. Grin

I could have been identified on threads where I mentioned my DD's name.

On another one I implied which town I live in (it's not big) and I generally say what nationality I am. The combination is not that common.

But then sometimes name change so I'm not too bothered.
