Massive arguement...who is BU. If you pay digs should you reasonably expect to keep a laundry basket in your bed

Just had one of those stupid massive arguements with DS.

IABU or is He BU?

DS 20 has had a laundry bag in his room for the last 5 years or so.

He is 'sorting' his room and has decided that he no longer wants to keep a laundry basket in his room.

His reasoning is that he wants more room and for it to looker tidier and he shouldn't have to keep it there because he is paying rent!

I've said no, it's part of life suck it up.

His solution is for me to empty the hall cupboard then move contents to the living room (steam cleaner, mop, buckets, hoover) and keep them behind the couch in the living room and give him the hall cupboard for his laundry bag/basket!!!!!!!!

Who is BU coz I'm ready to tell him to pack his belongs into his fecking laundry basket and move out

Offer to pack as soon as he buys his own suitcases.

HorryIsUpduffed · 19/07/2013 18:43

Hilarious.

Who does his laundry? If him, suggest he does it more frequently to reduce build-up. If you, laugh in his face.

Or increase his "rent" in proportion to the additional square footage Wink

Hegsy · 19/07/2013 18:44

He is BU DH and I have 2 laundry baskets in our room and we live in a 2 bed flat but bathroom not big enough and not a lot of storage space but thems the breaks

BadgersNadgers · 19/07/2013 18:44

Where do the rest f you put your dirty laundry?

Doingakatereddy · 19/07/2013 18:44

If it gets it done quicker - pack for him. YANBU.

HorryIsUpduffed · 19/07/2013 18:45

When I was 20 I kept my dirty laundry in my room (in student hovel).

4thfloor · 19/07/2013 18:45

he does his own laundry

OP posts:
whois · 19/07/2013 18:47

He is BU, laundry baskets live in your room.

5madthings · 19/07/2013 18:48

Well if he wants the cupboard he can pay rent on it...

4thfloor · 19/07/2013 18:49

Everyone has their own laundry basket in their bedroom and is responsible for their own washing.

Bathroom is odd shape and not big enough for one to go their

HorryIsUpduffed · 19/07/2013 18:50

Right then, if he does his own washing then the answer to his "problem" is that he should do so more often, perchance Grin

maternitart · 19/07/2013 18:50

Does it have a lid? Would a smarter basket rather than a bag solve the problem? As "landlord" you could offer to go halves?

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 19/07/2013 18:51

He's paying rent for his room.

Tell him that if he wants to make use of another part of the house, then he has the choice to pay additional rent.

See if he's happy to put his money where his mouth is!

I bet he's not paying anything close to what it would cost him to live independently, is he?

Perhaps it's time for a financial breakdown.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 19/07/2013 18:52

Could it go in a bag and hang on the back of his door?

passmetheprozac · 19/07/2013 18:54

Well if he wants his own space to put his dirty laundry where he wants, he needs to start flat hunting.

Break down the costs of him living there against what he pays in rent. I bet you a pound to a penny his rent doesn't cover the actual cost of him living there.

I live with my parents (relationship breakdown, can't afford to live independently in the town I live in right now, I could rent a room but it would cost me double what I pay now and I am saving to move out) I buy my own food, cook my own food, it is like a house share but with my parents.

4thfloor · 19/07/2013 19:01

He is paying £80 a month.....a frigging bargin altough I'm making him put the rest of what would be a decent amount for board and lodgings away every month for a flat deposit and and good few months rent so he is sort of sorted when he moves out

OP posts:
nenevomito · 19/07/2013 19:03

He's having a laugh.

ouryve · 19/07/2013 19:04

Charge him extra rent for the extra space.

BastardDog · 19/07/2013 19:08

£80 a month! That'd barely cover his costs at the laundrette if he lived independently. He's BU. Tell him he can like it or lump it

WaitingForMe · 19/07/2013 19:11

I didn't get a laundry storage room in uni halls, in my house share or my bedsit.

Actually I still don't have one Confused

Ezio · 19/07/2013 19:11

£80....fine make it £100 for the cupboard, simples.

diddl · 19/07/2013 19:13

I have some sympathy with him tbh.

Never had laundry baskets in bedrooms.

Although his solution is obvs unworkable.

DaddyPigsMistress · 19/07/2013 19:15

Let him put the washing basket in any room he chooses... For £20 a week

Itstartshere · 19/07/2013 19:22

In any houseshare he goes into, he'll have to have it in his room. And usually his washing when it's drying too.

Tell him to suck it up!

StuntGirl · 19/07/2013 19:25

I wish I could put our laundry basket somewhere else than our bedroom. Sadly it is not practical to do so, much like in your house. Think he has to suck it up or move into his own house where he can put his laundry wherever the heck he likes Grin
