I feel a little guilty about not getting gifts for the teachers

My DS is in Yr2, will be leaving his current school today and starting middle school in Sept.

I have bought small gifts for the teacher & the TA for the past 2 years. However, this year I haven't had any money for gifts (he has 2 teachers and 2 TAs), due to the horrendous cost of the uniform for next year, and some unexpected bills. DS did make them each a card, and actually wrote (he HATES writing with a passion) a little message to each of them.

I thanked one of the teachers personally the other day, and plan to do the same with the rest today. But I'm feeling a bit guilty about not getting them anything. I don't want them to think I didn't like them enough or didn't think much of their teaching skills....

No. Stop feeling bad this once.

A card from your son?

That is more than enough.

I think that's a lovely personal touch and site to be appreciated by any teacher more than another box of chocolates! Don't worry at all.

*sure

You have shown your appreciation by actually telling them face to face, together with DS's handmade card. Worth far more than a material gift in my book. In previous years that is exactly what we've done.

We have given a gift to the class (new pets) rather than direct to the teacher. DS likes his teacher very much but will also miss the other children (combined yr3 & 4 class) so he wanted to include them in the gift.

Thank you for your replies, I'm feeling a bit better about it now.

Ujjayi, what a lovely idea and gift to give, I'll bet the whole class were thrilled.

Glad you are feeling better.

The class were thrilled with the gerbils, as was the teacher (naturally checked with her first Wink).

DS will be giving his teacher and TA a home made card too.

Why would they think you didn't rate their teaching skills when you got your DS to write them a card?

The card will be kept and appreciated.
