To add 'spares' to this shopping list offer from MIL?

I don't mind if IABU but just need other points of view :)

So mil has offered to kit ds1 out with all the stationery he needs for his new school. I've a Pre printed list from the school that I was going to give her and my note the quantities next to each item. Dh thinks it's too cheeky to ask for more than one of each item but I think it's fine. I'm not taking the piss, no spare calculator for example but I think it's ok to ask for a 3pk of handwriting pens or a multipack of HB pencils.

AIBU to do this or should I just let her buy one of each item?

(If it matters they aren't rich or poor, just regular!)

tbh i think i would just give her the school list as i think the majority would buy more than one pen pencil etc.

you writing on it may seem a little grabby, but i have never been asked (always do all the school stuff) so no idea really .

also i found with my boys the more they had the more careless there were with them anyway.

Usually better value to buy these in packs. Could she maybe not buy the whole lust but half of it in larger quantities as a compromise?

Agree, she'll pay over the odds to buy one of something and presumably Poundland stuff (or wherever) will be fine.

I think that's the best idea, just give her the list and see what she comes back with. I can always top it up when if he starts to lose stiff

Why not talk to her about it? Say that the basic is one of everything, but if some things like pencils come in multipacks, would she mind getting those, as you are sure your dc's will need replacements over time.

To be honest, if I were doing this for you, I would pick up a multipack of pens or pencils without a second thought. I love buying stationery.

Even if she didn't, if she's buying him the pencil case, protractor, calculator - all the expensive stuff, would it really hurt you just to be grateful and spend two quid on some multipacks of pens and pencils at Poundland?
