Only just heard about this on BBC news. Nice to see a footballer in the press who isn't there for cheating on his wife with prosititutes, speeding offenses, fighting or being central to a sexual assault case.

Fab role model. Brilliant for him to raise awareness with his protest. May be for his own religious reasons, but not profiting off lending others money to me is an ethical issue- not just ingrained in Sharia law.

Also makes me feel a bit ill to think that Wonga probably approached Newcastle to appeal to some of the most impoverished places in the UK in the NE.

Isn't a credit card (i.e. Virgin Money) kinda the same thing though?

NotYoMomma · 17/07/2013 19:48

virgin money dont just do credit cards though, they so savings etc.

wonga just fuck you over

plus virgin money took over northern rock which is a HUGEemployer in the North East still

Wonga saved me money because I refused to buy the NU foot ball shirt this year for my husband. Grin Not with them plastered all of the front of it.. fucking parasites!

What about alcohol firms and gambling firms. What about how Roman Abramovich got his money, not to mention all the middle-eastern folk that own clubs. Football is full of dirty money, it seems a bit unreasonable to single out Wonga.

I agree, good for him.
Also, Bolton Wanderers changed their sponsor after fans objected to QuickQuid.

Yanbu!
Conpanies like Wonga target the vulnerable, those who are in financial hardship and have no other options.

GoshAnneGorilla · 17/07/2013 19:56

YANBU Wonga are an utter disgrace without any moral justifications for their ways. Firms should not be allowed to charge that much APR.

Credit also to BW fans for making their club change sponsor.

I would be quite happy to have alcohol and gambling firms banned from any form of sports sponsorship just as tobacco firms have been.
