To go into work straight after surgery?

I'm going to the dentist to have a few fillings, teeth out and having my gums cut as they're rather overgrown. I'm due in work about an hour after, I'm in a secretarial role, so client facing, lots of talking on telephone, and I was planning to go in, but lots of ppl have said I'll be in too much pain and my gums won't be able to heal if I'm talking a lot and doing strenuous mouth movements. Aibu?

My dentists advised no work, driving or caring for anyone for 48 hours after.

Also common sense should surely tell you to take the day off!

You might feel ok, you might feel awful.

CityTiliDie · 17/07/2013 07:17

No way will you able to talk properly with all that local in your face!

At least one full day off if not more.

BikeRunSki · 17/07/2013 07:17

You'lll feel awful and your gums will be too swollen to speak properly. Can you not have half a day's sick leave to recover? Sounds like a lot of dental work ar once. Good luck.

Meglet · 17/07/2013 07:23

Yabu. You'll have that weird dead puffy mouth sensation from the anaesthetic too. Not a good look if you're meant to be efficient and customer facing. Let your mouth heal up for a day or so.

Jestrin · 17/07/2013 07:29

As StuntGirl said, common sense would tell you thats an awful lot of work you are having done in one sitting. You will be full of local, and once that wears off most likely sore. Take the day off.

pianodoodle · 17/07/2013 07:32

I had fillings and wisdom teeth out one morning and went out to a student that evening and even though the anaesthetic had worn off the gum socket started bleeding halfway through and I had to sit with rolled up cotton wool in my mouth!

Best take the day off :)

ZillionChocolate · 17/07/2013 07:33

Take the rest of the day off. Your plan sounds unrealistic.

wonkylegs · 17/07/2013 07:36

I had someone come and see me for a meeting after doing this, it was a best a farce at worst a complete waste of time. She was unintelligible due to the local and giving she was trying to sell me a service it would have seriously helped for her to be able to communicate!

Your face may swell up so not an ideal look for a customer facing role.

MojitoMagnet · 17/07/2013 07:59

Really don't go into work, you'll end up seeming really unprofessional for one or other of various reasons mentioned above.
