Not because girls are better, but because it would set the ground for a change in primogeniture - which ought to mean the eldest child of the family inherits the title and estate etc regardless of sex, but this still doesn't happen in some ancient families. William and Kate's child will inherit the Crown of England etc in time regardless of sex and the rest of the aristocracy should follow suit or it would be a serious anomaly. Surely nobody can believe any longer in the phrase 'son and heir' where there is an elder female sibling.
Sorry if everyone is bored of the Royal baby or if this topic has already been raised, as I only come on MN intermittently. I just wondered if anyone else felt the same.
Interestingly, our three best monarchs - in my opinion - have been Elizabeths 1 and 2 and Victoria, so perhaps the eldest girl should inherit! (not serious!)
