AIBU to be hacked off with the estate agent / moving house already??

House only went on the market on Saturday pm. So far they have done a viewing without asking (I thought they would ask and give 24 hours notice) and today a viewing cancelled with an hours notice.

Now - I know shit happens and sometimes stuff gets cancelled, but the agent left a message on my home phone and didnt even call my mobile (even though its listed as the first contact number) so I came home from the corner shop and sat there like a twat trying to keep the house tidy with DS (aged 1) trying to wreck the joint. I've cooked nothing for dinner for me and DH because I was desperate to keep the kitchen spotless.

At least the guy who came to put the for sale board up was sexy.

So AIBU for getting hacked off already or is this just what selling a house is like (therefore should I just take a massive chill pill and get over it.) What tips do you have for keeping your house at 'viewing ready' standard with a curious toddler.......? Please tell me it will be worth it when I'm in my new 'family home'!

17 weeks on the market and not one viewing! It could be worse ...mine is a nice house as well - i hate selling houses!

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/07/2013 18:58

Oh no!! Shame I can't just have your house and make it nice and easy for us both!! :-)

If your estate agent is doing their job badly, choose another one. I would tell them that you expect to be asked before a viewer comes round.

You do have to put your life on hold to a certain extent when your house is on the market unfortunately. You just have to tidy up everything as you go.

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/07/2013 19:07

I've just given them some constructive feedback on both counts!

I understand how tricky it is keeping the place immaculate with the whirlwind of a toddler. Mine has been on a week, one viewing so far & another that wanted to view but we were out & agent fully booked.
It is a pain but it's positive you are getting interest.

It's horrible selling I've been on 2 weeks and had 5 viewings , our whole life feels on hold and we need to tidy constantly I cannot wait to move.

Bowlersarm · 15/07/2013 19:15

Oh it's a horrible process!!

Your agent shouldn't just turn up. However they will want to get people through your front door-that's their job. Keep it clean, and as tidy as you can, but other than that try not to put your life on hold. Try and be flexible about people viewing, short notice or not.

Good luck.

Buy some of those enormous brightly coloured plastic garden trugs/buckets from B&Q and lob all toddler detritus in it just before a viewing and then hide out of sight (or put it in the boot of the car like I did!!). With the last min cancellation, you are going to have to just suck it up as there is no way around people cancelling but the estate agents should give you at least an hours notice of a viewing. Good luck!

i'd love to swap, how easy!

CloudsAndTrees · 15/07/2013 19:45

I grew up believing that people did just swap when they moved house! I had an aunt who was trying to sell and was struggling to, and I remember wondering how anyone ever moved house when the chances of finding someone who liked your house as much as you liked theirs would be tiny! Blush

Over a YEAR on the market and only two viewings here! Count yourself lucky.

SquinkiesRule · 15/07/2013 21:59

It does suck. We get an hour notice but if I'm out when they call then I could drive up to find people looking, so would go past and hope they leave soon.
We have eaten some odd meals the last few days me trying to keep the kitchen smelling and looking nice, so we ate leftovers and odd bits. I've been craving broccoli cheese for days.
But once it's sold it'll be worth it.

One week on the market - not even a sniff of a viewer here yet.
