It has made my blood boil! Especially that judgmental bitch, Debbie, who was telling the single parent that she shouldn't buy a whole chicken on tax payers' money to feed her children! Then she went all judgy and bitchy because the kids eat two cooked meals a day and she asked if that was really necessary!
I think the world has gone mad!

If the woman didn't give her kids a cooked meal every night she would be complaining she relied on the school to feed her kids properly and questioning what her money was spent on. That bit annoyed me too.

HeySoulSister · 11/07/2013 22:32

I wanted her to say she could use the chicken carcass to make soup as well!!

bimbabirba · 11/07/2013 22:33

Only that bit?
What do Nick and Margaret know of people on benefits?
It was one of the worst programs of this type, full of envy and angry people despising others openly

Definitely thought the chicken thing was too much. If she wants to make stock from the bones so be it.

Up the minimum wage and assist people upskilling themselves. She obviously did not take school seriously and given an opportunity to upskill herself would improve her self esteem.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 11/07/2013 22:36

Debbie made me very stabby

loveliesbleeding1 · 11/07/2013 22:39

Had to turn this shite over when I saw the dad crying over his shame of being on jobseekers, just couldn't watch any more.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 11/07/2013 22:39

Not a TV watcher, what was the title please? Do you think it will be on iPlayer?

gamerchick · 11/07/2013 22:39

The chicken thing sent me off into a rant. You can get at least 3 meals out of one chicken. Stupid hint!

gamerchick · 11/07/2013 22:41

*bint

bimbabirba · 11/07/2013 22:44

It's this shit

gamerchick · 11/07/2013 22:44

It was like watching the fucking daily mail on screen. I feel like showering.

xylem8 · 11/07/2013 22:45

The trouble with the argument that workers should upskill themselves, is that the unskilled jobs still remain and will be done by somebody else who will still be in the same predicament.
The cost of housing really is the root of the problem which has pushed the cost of living so far out of kilter with the minimum wage.

mynameisslimshady · 11/07/2013 22:46

I only watched bits of it tbh, I kept turning it over because it was pissing me off. The woman in the supermarket was acting as if she personally provided the benefits money to the other woman, commenting on nutritional values and salt intake and whether she should spend £4 on a chicken or feed her kids a hot meal.

The whole thing was desperatly sad and patronising.

beals692 · 11/07/2013 22:47

Glad I decided to give my blood pressure a break and skip this - Was vaguely hoping it would be better than it sounded but obviously not!

MrButtercat · 11/07/2013 22:47

Yabu

I think it's mad that my dp is a htp and my dc can only have school meals as a treat.

Debbie was right they don't need two hot meals a day.My dc have a packed lunch and 1 hot meal a day,not sure why this wouldn't be good enough for the lady in question.

She was wasting money,sorry.

IneedAyoniNickname · 11/07/2013 22:49

My dc have 2hot meals most days, they are always starving by dinner time.
Debbie is a twat!

LalaLeona · 11/07/2013 22:50

Couldn't agree more xylem8. The cost of housing seems to be the elephant in the room on these kind of programmes..

CloudsAndTrees · 11/07/2013 22:50

I think it's been very balanced actually.

mymatemax · 11/07/2013 22:52

it pissed me off because of the claimants attitude & lack of desire to even try to get work.
Yes I do object to funding all their fcking pets, body piercing, tattoos & electrical equipment.
& I also have to say no to my kids when they ask to go on days out (farm etc) but tbh, that's life, we work hard, earn what we earn & have to budget accordingly.
Would much rather see an increase to the pension or disability allowance

Remotecontrolduck · 11/07/2013 22:52

I saw this. I couldn't understand why that guy was being criticised for volunteering? Fair enough he should get a paid job, however I can understand his gripe. 3 years in university and a 2:1 for a job in a dry cleaners (not that there is anything wrong with working there).

The woman with the lady with the pets was horrible as well. Pet lady (can't remember names, sorry) didn't look like she was particularly putting herself out to look for work I must admit, but it is difficult with little in the way of qualifications. She seemed to really care for her kids too, making sure they had enough food and good cooked meals. I felt Angry about her being derided for having one or two drinks in the pub once a week two. Should she sit at home constantly?

In times like these, anyone can be made redundant and it really isn't easy even with a full CV to get work. These people looking down their noses should remember in a couple of years time, they could be in a similar position.

bimbabirba · 11/07/2013 22:52

Buttercut even if she wasn't optimising her pennies 100% why do you feel envious that her children eat two hot meals a day? Why shouldn't they deserve to?
What a horrible attitude you and other people have!

OP posts:
Remotecontrolduck · 11/07/2013 22:57

Seriously bad spelling and grammar there, apologies.

It IS unfair that you can live a better life on benefits than you can working full time, and housing and benefits are taking up a lot of our taxes however big businesses aren't paying their taxes, greedy bankers ruined our economy...they don't seem to suffer.

There does need to be some changes to our benefit system, and help to get back into work so you don't end up in a cycle of dependency. Eing bitchy and judgemental and the 'just get a job' attitude doesn't help. Employed where exactly?

frogwatcher42 · 11/07/2013 22:57

Whats really depressing is that to get a net income of £18k as I think one of the families got in benefits, I reckon we would need to earn about £30k due to tax, NI and the general costs of working such as running a car, diesel, work clothes etc coming out of the gross wage.

I really hope somebody proves me wrong as I had no idea that I was still worse off working! Or did that family have special circumstances so that they got more support?
