A member of a local female-only group on the dreaded Facebook. Usually you can get good info about what's on, recommendations for local businesses, etc.

Today, a photo was posted of a random unknown woman in a tiny string bikini. Extremely thin, quite elderly, with breast implants - the caption was "OMFG!! Just had to share this!" - followed by 50 similar comments about how disgusting it was, how hilarious it was, someone said they'd kill themselves if they looked like that. Lots of "yuk, just had my lunch, what an ugly cow".

I should have ignored it probably but posted that it seemed a bit unnecessary to be so unpleasant about someone else's body just because they didn't look how society expects them too.

I've had a pasting for not having a sense of humour, how it's "just a giggle" and I've been told to get a life.

I just don't get it. I do have a sense of humour, for stuff that is actually funny. Or have I totally lost touch with what normal people find acceptable?!

dons hard hat :)

I don't find it funny either, she is not just a picture on a website, she is real person with thoughts and feelings and would be devestated if she saw a bunch of strangers ridiculing her Sad I hate it when people get judged on their looks.

shazbean · 11/07/2013 20:43

It isn't really funny.
It's someone's mum or gran or sister you are laughing at.
And I'm sure every one of them has a perfect flaw-free body.

ImNotBloody14 · 11/07/2013 20:43

I wouldnt find that funny at all.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 11/07/2013 20:43

I must be missing the same thing as you, because I wouldn't find that particularly amusing either.

Morecambe & Wise - ha ha ha
Casual misogyny - not so much.

Roshbegosh · 11/07/2013 20:43

It can be depressing when women judge each other so nastily. Horrible, not funny at all.

Solari · 11/07/2013 20:45

I wouldn't find it funny. I might find it a bit shocking (if the person really did look quite unusual), but I wouldn't point and laugh at it online any more than I would in real life.

Sharing it around the internet for laughs is just mean.

Solari · 11/07/2013 20:46

Tell them you do have a sense of humour, you just combine it with a conscience!

CrowsLanding · 11/07/2013 20:47

No its not funny but you comment and people will reply, That is what happens on Facebook. My only advice it to ignore, never reply!

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing." -Burke?

Ok, not quite 'evil', but still, I think it is a good thing that there are people willing to stick their neck out and stand up to bad behaviour.
