To expect my cleaner to clean under the table, the sink, not leave smears on the shower door, wipe window sills and skirting?

Am I?

I feel funny about pointing stuff out to her, plus her english isnt very good so I thibk it will be awkward/painful getting her to understand... Do I just get a new cleaner?

Are you giving her enough time to do things like skirtings and the shower door? Under the table is a given though.

But if you aren't happy with what you need doing, then you need to talk to her about it.

ChickenLickenSticken · 11/07/2013 18:08

She first said 2hrs... She does 1hr45-1hr50. I pay her £8ph for 2hrs.

She does clean the shower door, just it's always smeary afterwards so doesn't look clean.

A cleaner who doesn't know how to clean!

Ditch her.

Moxiegirl · 11/07/2013 18:10

I've never had a cleaner but isn't £4ph a bit low?

Moxiegirl · 11/07/2013 18:10

Sorry misread your post oops

DocMarten · 11/07/2013 18:11

£8 for 2 hours work?!!

No wonder she doesn't do skirting etc.

JakeBullet · 11/07/2013 18:11

I think at £4 an hour you can't have an experienced cleaner. ....and if she is over 22 then you are paying less than the NMW.

Teeb · 11/07/2013 18:12

I think sometimes the expectation on a cleaner can be pretty big though. How much could you physically get done in 2 hours? The whole house?

JakeBullet · 11/07/2013 18:12

Ah...£8 per HOUR..so experienced then. Yes it needs pointing out or you need a new cleaner.

ChickenLickenSticken · 11/07/2013 18:13

Sorry sorry.... £8 per HOUR! Her suggested rate...

OP posts:
Teeb · 11/07/2013 18:13

She said £8 'ph' which means per hour, so it would be £16 for the two hours.

HarrySnotter · 11/07/2013 18:13

I'm reading that at £8 per hour so £16? Am I being a muppet?

NaturalBaby · 11/07/2013 18:15

I didn't expect my cleaner to do skirting boards.

One was excellent at getting smears off the shower door and another wasn't - I wasn't too bothered as she had cleaned it.
I would just ask about the floor, and make sure you show her and point out crumbs/food.

JakeBullet · 11/07/2013 18:15

Yes, apologies OP as I misread it.

dirtyface · 11/07/2013 18:16

2 hours?

how big is your house?

i am a cleaner and most houses i do 3 - 4 hours. and my clients houses vary between 3 - 6 bedroom places. and i have time to do everything that you say yours is not doing. plus extra's if i have any spare time at the end.

tbh have had some clients expect me to fully, intensively clean their huge 5 bed 3 bathroom properties in 2 hours, have usually turned the work down as they are dreaming tbh

where in the country are you, do you want a new cleaner Wink

ChickenLickenSticken · 11/07/2013 18:16

Argh I did put "ph" which yes, to clarify, is per hour.

She hasn't wiped the bath panel either....

I reckon I could do it in 2hours if it was my profession.

OP posts:
voscar · 11/07/2013 18:17

My cleaner does all of the things you've said properly in two hours. Plus hoovering, bathrooms and mopping downstairs. But my house is always immaculately tidy (we both have mild OCD) and I pay £13 per hour (Kent).

fluffyraggies · 11/07/2013 18:19

It depends what she is expected to do in those two hours as to weather or not she has time to do stuff like wipe the bath panel and skirting boards in every room.

What is her list of chores exactly and how big is your house?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 11/07/2013 18:19

My cleaner does 2 hours - we have a 3-bed semi and there's no way she'd have time to do the skirting! Perhaps you need to have her for longer?

Crowler · 11/07/2013 18:20

You may have an inexperienced but motivated cleaner. 8ph is not great, by the way; I pay 10 for my super experienced cleaner. Give her a chance; point out what you'd like done.

gamerchick · 11/07/2013 18:20

Why, do you think cleaners are superhero quick because its their job?
how long does it take you to do your house to your requirements?

dirtyface · 11/07/2013 18:22

and yeah was also going to say, do you give her a list?

i much prefer to have a list, so we both know whats expected.

BreadNameBread · 11/07/2013 18:26

This is a how long is a piece of string question. It depends what else she does, how big your house is and how well she cleans things.

I would check how she leans the shower glass. She may be using the wrong cleaning product.

Vivacia · 11/07/2013 18:39

I was going to ask the same question, how long does it take you?

Also, I was confused by why you all expect the underneath of the table to be cleaned! It's been a long day.

Crowler · 11/07/2013 18:42

She must mean the floor under the table. Which should be cleaned.

Unless she doesn't have time.

You can't clean anything beyond a small flat very thoroughly in 2 hours. I am an extremely good & efficient cleaner and it takes me 5 hours to clean my house thoroughly (same for my very good cleaner).
