To hate the stealth boasting of posting holiday pics on FB?

juneau · 10/07/2013 08:40

I'm not jealous - we're going on holiday ourselves later in the summer - but I just find it bad taste and I'd hate my friends who aren't going on holiday to be reminded of that fact and feel even worse about it than they probably already do.

OP posts:

I of course will look like a twat stunning in my camping fleece

MarmaladeTwatkins · 10/07/2013 10:44

One of my friends recently went to Nepal. His photos were great! And someone else went on a tour of South America. Liked those.

It's just the Benidorm ones I can't stick. Mainly by dullards I went to school with. "HAVIN IT LARGE IN MAGALUUUUUFFFFFF MESSY"

Fuck off, Wayne.

usualsuspect · 10/07/2013 10:46

My having it large, involves a nice cup of tea these days

MarmaladeTwatkins · 10/07/2013 10:48

Same, usual.

Or it's about the cuisine nowadays. The best bit of my holidays now is getting excited over menus.

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2013 10:49

I get quite excited about a nice hospitality tray in a hotel. Cute teapot and naice biscuits. Blush

Fenton · 10/07/2013 10:50

I think I would be more concerned with feeling I had to hide my holiday pics incase it might upset someone.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 10/07/2013 10:52

OMG Sparkling. We rented a villa out with some friends in Italy last month. When we got in the owners had left us:

  • 2 litres of red
  • naice bread
  • naice tomatoes
  • olive oil
  • local biscuits
  • olives and tapenade

Nearly shat with excitement I did.

FirstStopCafe · 10/07/2013 10:53

I haven't been on a foreign holiday for years or any holiday at all for 2 years. I still enjoy looking at my friend's photos afterall they are my friends.

I don't really get all the issues people have with fb. If people are your friends surely you enjoy them sharing their experiences with you. If they're not your friends don't have them on fb.

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2013 10:56

Ooh a picture of that on FB would have had me Envy Marmalade. In this country at a cottage we had a bottle of red and Thorntons chocolates. Grin

MarmaladeTwatkins · 10/07/2013 10:57

Thorntons isn't to be scoffed at!

Unless it was a bag of mis-shapes what you can get from Home Bargains. :(

acheekyvimto · 10/07/2013 10:58

YABU, I assume you will not be sharing any of your holiday photos on FB otherwise that would be a stealth boast.

I would rather see 50 peoples happy holiday photos than 50 people moaning about things or even worse posting religious songs onto my news feed. (Yes, I had a friend clog my news feed up with them, they didn't stay long after that).

theodorakisses · 10/07/2013 10:59

It's better than the old days when you would have to look at endless, endless photos from Truprint pouches.

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2013 11:03

That's true Theodora or the 70s slide show. Dad would get the projector out and bore the pants off everyone with slides of caravan holidays in Cornwall.

NotintheMiddle · 10/07/2013 11:11

No problem with holiday photos but sometimes have a problem with the comments.

I have a friend who often posts photos of her kids doing sporty things with comments like "XXX kicking ass" "XXX ripping up" "Go Team [INSERT SURNAME]"

I also post photos of the kids doing various sports but with "XXX having fun doing x,y,z"

Burmobasher · 10/07/2013 11:12

Yabu
I haven't been away for years, am a teensy bit jealous of those who do but still like to see the pics and don't need somebody to be morally offended on my behalf.
What photos do you want to see on FB? People having a shit summer?

HeffalumpTheFlump · 10/07/2013 11:12

I don't think it's stealth boasting at all... But I would be lying if I said I wasn't dying with jealousy when I see them! Especially when they pop up on a crappy grey rainy day and they put up a picture of a white sandy beach in paradise. Green isn't even the word. Oh and I get very excited by freebies in a hotel too! Even if it's just tea and coffee!

HelgaHufflepuff · 10/07/2013 11:41

Why is it stealth boasting?! Confused I'm sure half the people on there aren't posting just to wind you up and make you feel crap. Hmm
Facebook is a medium to update about your life, and what you're doing in it. Posting pics of your holiday is a perfectly legitimate thing to do.

HelgaHufflepuff · 10/07/2013 11:42

Oh, and I love FB for exactly this reason. Nosing at other people's pictures/ what they're up to etc!

LilacPeony · 10/07/2013 12:00

I don't mind seeing holiday pics. I'm interested to see the places people went to. I think if it is ok to do in real life then it's ok on FB. I'd be happy to see someone's holiday photos in real life, but less impressed if they arrived on the playground and boasted about how their child was top of the class in everything

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 10/07/2013 12:33

Yabu. I hope that people enjoy the holidays that they have worked hard to pay for. I don't mind seeing pics, in fact I quite like seeing happy snaps. Must be maddening to be jealous and bitter. I am very grateful that neither trait is dominant in my personality.

MrsMelons · 10/07/2013 12:39

I love seeing people's holiday snaps and couldn't give a shit what people.think of me putting mine on there. I think it is odd to think about what people would think if they couldn't afford it, it is no different than putting pictures up of your children, partner, garden, house or cat in case other people don't have/can't afford them. If they are my friends bi would be pleased for them or envious in the nicest possible way.

I thought it was odd when a FB 'friend' put on there how much he had just paid for his holiday balance though as that is just bad taste!

KellyElly · 10/07/2013 12:44

Delete your FB profile. That's the only advice I can give.

valiumredhead · 10/07/2013 13:11

I love not being on fb Grin

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/07/2013 13:36

We can't afford a holiday this year, but i love seeing other people's photos. Yabvu.

PrincessScrumpy · 10/07/2013 14:13

I prefer that than ex friends telling everyone how bad their lives are and how evil their exes are.
Sharing photos with friends is fairly usual, even before fb. Jealousy is not the poster's issue it is yours. Be happy for your friends.
