To hate the stealth boasting of posting holiday pics on FB?

I'm not jealous - we're going on holiday ourselves later in the summer - but I just find it bad taste and I'd hate my friends who aren't going on holiday to be reminded of that fact and feel even worse about it than they probably already do.

oh dear there was a similar thread the other week...it didn't end well....

usualsuspect · 10/07/2013 09:49

Oh noes, people using FB for what it's actually for shocker!

usualsuspect · 10/07/2013 09:49

If you hate FB, why do you use it?

Birdsgottafly · 10/07/2013 09:50

I don't understand why anyone who doesn't like FB and what it can be used for, has an account, or doesn't control the settings so that they are not bombarded with posts that they don't want to see.

FB is a good way to store/share photos, it should be used for trivia.

katiecubs · 10/07/2013 09:51

What?! I like seeing holiday pictures of family and friends on holiday having fun. Bitter much?!

GillyMac93 · 10/07/2013 09:51

Some people may be stealth boasting but the majority are just sharing the fact they're having a good time and the opportunity to tag themselves somewhere interesting

Cravey · 10/07/2013 09:51

Yabu. I post pics from my hols all the time. We spend a lot of time in the states and I know my teenage nephew loves seeing the photos we take. It's nothing to do with boasting, stealth or otherwise. For us it's a way of saying yes hi we having a fab time miss you all etc. I think you are coming across as slightly jealous op.

ARealDame · 10/07/2013 09:56

I find holiday pics mostly boring to be honest. They don't really tell you whether people are having a good or interesting time. Nice background, people smiling, um, thats it folks. Mostly, its only a reminder of the flavour of a holiday for people who were there, or to look back on down memory lane.

ARealDame · 10/07/2013 10:00

And Juneau, you sound like a sensitive person, not wanting friends to feel sad they are not on holiday.

FreudiansSlipper · 10/07/2013 10:01

i do not see it as boasting as such but do not get why people feel the need to share so much on line or read what others are doing constantly unless they are teenagers. why would you be evening thinking of fb when on holiday

i catch up with my friends by having a conversation with them or email/skypeand then we tell each other what has been going on in our lives

Heebiejeebie · 10/07/2013 10:01

AND WHAT ABOUT THOSE POSTCARD-SENDING BOASTY BASTARDS? HMMMMM??????

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2013 10:04

OMG juneau you are not allowed to say anything about FB and boasting. Shock You will be accused of envy and being a killjoy.

Sallyingforth · 10/07/2013 10:04

You are BU to be upset annoyed or offended about anything on Facebook. If you don't like it, don't use it. Many of us manage to struggle through life without it.

OnIlkelyMoorBahtat · 10/07/2013 10:05

Haha Heebiejeebie, very good point! People posting their holiday pics doesn't bother me in the slightest - these are my friends and family, I like knowing what they've been up to and sharing in their happiness. If I didn't, I wouldn't have friended them on Facebook!

MarmaladeTwatkins · 10/07/2013 10:14

YANBU

I don't really want to see "Dave asleep by the pool LOL" "Dimitri the best waiter in Kos LOL" "The Pool (with takers feet at end of sunbed clearly in shot) LOL" "A selfie of me and Dave with sunburn LOL"

I hate those ones. I like interesting ones of local scenery/landmarks etc. Not so much Dave's lobster pot belly hanging oot of his Hummel bottoms.

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2013 10:16

Grin Marmalade. Or dinners. Why the photos of dinners? Put your phone away and eat it FGS.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 10/07/2013 10:19

One dear friend, whom I love muchly, posted pictures of every meal she had on honeymoon in Mexico. I understand that they did nice things with the food, like writing Happy Honeymoon in balsamic glaze or making flowers out of carrots but what you must remember is that whilst it might look lovely on the plate, it doesn't ever translate that well into photograph. They always look like a tricolour arrangement of food, like the pictures you get on cheapo take-away menus.

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/07/2013 10:22

I also love seeing friends and family all happy and smiley on holiday.
Surely if you care about people you want to see them happy?

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2013 10:24

I sometimes think that FB photo posters are making a massive assumption and flattering themselves that they think people are interested in seeing them. Maybe.

PostBellumBugsy · 10/07/2013 10:30

Love holiday pics on FB. Really enjoy seeing the places my friends go & particularly their DCs having fun wherever it may be.

I really hate stealth boasting (like: poor Tarquin will have to give up the violin if he is going to progress to grade 90 in flute and get his judo black belt) but I never think of holiday snaps as boasting, rather sharing good times.

eurozammo · 10/07/2013 10:33

I love look at friends' holiday photos. They are people I like, having a good time. Why wouldn't that be a good thing that I would want to see?

DoctorRobert · 10/07/2013 10:38

I love looking at friends' holiday photos. I might feel a little bit envious sometimes, not having been abroad for 3 years - but I'm always happy that they've had a nice time. They're my FRIENDS.

usualsuspect · 10/07/2013 10:39

Well,Sparkling it's very easy to hide photos on FB.

I'm gonna post loads of photos of my exotic camping holiday.

I might post a photo of DP with his skinny legs out with his holiday sandals on.

ShadeofViolet · 10/07/2013 10:42

Whenever my grandparents went on holiday, we would have a 2 hour slide presentation when they got back. Much of the Scottish Highlands looks very similar and it was mind numbing.

I would much rather a quick flick through on FB, and I love seeing where other people go on their holidays.
