To think that mowing your lawn directly outside a three year old's bedroom window at 730 is rather thoughtless?

Just that really.

Neighbours know how old our DD is. They know we are home. So they should probably have an inkling that it's bedtime....

What do you think? I am thinking its quite selfish to make a racket of an evening, particularly as there will be windows open.

It's not a big actual problem, as it happens- I'm just curious to know what the mumsnet hive mind thinks.

YABU I'm afraid.

FourEyesGood · 09/07/2013 19:48

Many people have no idea how early small children go to bed. Maybe you should ask them (very gently, without recriminations) if they could keep noisy stuff to toddler-friendly hours.

Footface · 09/07/2013 19:48

I think unless you have a 3 year old you forgot about bedtimes

maja00 · 09/07/2013 19:48

7.30pm is borderline. 8pm would definitely be too late imo.

ImNotBloody14 · 09/07/2013 19:49

i think it's 7.30 on a sunny evening and she's 3. I think she'll survive a half hour later bedtime. I think if she cant then you should shut your windows or put her in another bedroom. I think it's not selfish of them at all but actually quite a normal time for people who work to cut their grass on nice days. and I agree that it's neither a big nor actual problem.

mynewpassion · 09/07/2013 19:49

In this weather its a perfect time to mow the lawn

janey68 · 09/07/2013 19:49

Yabu; when do you expect people who are at work all day to cut the grass?

mrsravelstein · 09/07/2013 19:50

i feel your pain but don't think you can stop people doing stuff in their gardens in the summer. our neighbours had a dinner party in their garden last night and were playing the guitar and singing (it was actually quite pleasant but impossible for 5 year old whose bedroom is at back of house to sleep through)... but as it's a pretty rare occurrence i had to just grit my teeth

daisychain01 · 09/07/2013 19:50

I thought 3 year olds sleep through anything (wedding receptions with loud speakers blearing away, high street shopping on a Sat etc)

PestoSwimissimos · 09/07/2013 19:50

I think it's fine, it's not excessively late and it's the sort of 'white noise' that's conducive to sleep anyway.

LST · 09/07/2013 19:51

Yabu and I say that with a 20mo DS who is in bed by 6.30. Sorry.

cantspel · 09/07/2013 19:51

Mowing a lawn at 7.30 is hardly anti social and is part and parcel of living on top of each other.

ReindeerBollocks · 09/07/2013 19:51

YABU.

Working full time would make 7:30 a reasonable time to mow the lawn in this weather, especially if they don't have little children.

officelady · 09/07/2013 19:52

Well .... I wouldn't be beyond mowing my lawn at 7.30pm in weather like this, and I'd be pretty pissed off if someone asked me not to. I don't think I'd start mowing after 8pm though. I don't have neighbours with young kids either.

Sirzy · 09/07/2013 19:53

YABU. DS is 3.5 but I would never expect others to change their behaviour on there own property at 7.30 on a lovely sunny evening because of him.

cees · 09/07/2013 19:53

Yabu

KobayashiMaru · 09/07/2013 19:54

If they work full time when do you think they can mow their lawn? Of course yabu.

teatimesthree · 09/07/2013 19:55

YABU - presumably they work, so need to do the garden in the evenings.

SchrodingersFanny · 09/07/2013 19:56

I have a three year old and dh cuts our lawn after he is in bed, by his window. So I think yabu.

It wouldn't occur to me that a child would be disturbed by it.

ParadiseChick · 09/07/2013 19:56

Yabu but I think you might have realized that by now!

financialwizard · 09/07/2013 19:57

My 3 yr old Dd sleeps through everything so I still do the gardening at that time of night, although she likes weeding so we try and do the garden on a weekend.

Eyesunderarock · 09/07/2013 19:57

Hey, you could mow their lawn for them when they're at work next time.
That way they won't have to do their gardening after a long hot day trapped in a building.

silverten · 09/07/2013 19:58

Like I said, it's not an actual problem. I've no intention of speaking to the neighbours about it. For what it's worth, DH and I also work and manage to mow our lawn at the weekend during the day. I imagine most people who work have at least some time off work during the daytime hours...

I was just a bit Hmm about it. I was brought up to think about other people as well as what I wanted.

bigbluebus · 09/07/2013 19:58

Sorry but I don't think mowing at 7.30pm in unreasonable. I often mow my lawn in the daytime and one of my neighbours works nights. I mow my lawn when it suits me, I don't deliberately want to annoy the neighbour, but if I waited for a convenient time for everyone, I'd never get anything done!

I'm sure your neighbour doesn't mow his lawn more than once a week - suck it up.

Sirzy · 09/07/2013 19:59

They may well have time of during the weekend, but they may have different things they want to do with that time.

TBH given the heat at the moment I think waiting until it is cooler in the early evening makes a lot of sense.
