To think that mowing your lawn directly outside a three year old's bedroom window at 730 is rather thoughtless?

Just that really.

Neighbours know how old our DD is. They know we are home. So they should probably have an inkling that it's bedtime....

What do you think? I am thinking its quite selfish to make a racket of an evening, particularly as there will be windows open.

It's not a big actual problem, as it happens- I'm just curious to know what the mumsnet hive mind thinks.

Babies can sleep at any time... Does that mean if you live near a baby you can never mow your grass??! I think YABU

7.30 is fine. You are being unreasonable if understandable.

I stopped dh hedge trimming at 8.30 last night as neighbours have primary aged kids.

He wouldn't have thought of this otherwise as our youngest is 12.

You too will forget one day.

YABU. The whole road can't stop because you have a three year old. What if there were slightly older children out playing in their garden next door at 7.30? It's really not late and a three year old should be able to sleep against noise like that. A lot of toddlers go to bed while everyone else is still up watching telly, friends calling to the door etc. They get used to sleeping with noise going on.

'Babies can sleep at any time... Does that mean if you live near a baby you can never mow your grass?'

Flagpoles.
Different flags to be run up to alert the neighbourhood as to the needs of your family
'Baby napping'
'Night shift worker asleep'
' party advance warning'
etc.

Here I think the latest time is 8pm in the week, 4pm on a Saturday & not at all on Sundays & Public holidays.

valiumredhead · 10/07/2013 15:28

It's not a horrible noise though is it, mowing the lawn? You know it won't go on indefinitely like someone playing loud music night after night. I find it quite soothing.

samandi · 10/07/2013 16:22

I think it's unreasonable to think they shouldn't do it. But tbh I wouldn't even think not to, so you could always try asking them if there's another time they could do it? But if this applies to any noise whatsoever then yabu ... people have a right to enjoy their gardens on a summer evening.

There's some right stroppy old moos on this thread OP. whoever used the word 'entitled' can get to feck frankly (she said stroppily)
OP is just asking what is considerate behaviour and what isn't. My next door neighbour is at home all day and still sand blasted a suite of bedroom furniture at 9.30 the other night. My husband laughed at her bonkers ways but I was a bit annoyed. My dc slept through it however.
You could try a bit of white noise whilst the mowing etc is going on.....

KobayashiMaru · 10/07/2013 17:22

you can't get more white noise than mowing.

DinoSnores · 10/07/2013 18:31

YABU. We are likely to cut our grass beside our 3 yo's window in about half an hour. I think it is really important to teach children to sleep through normal noise.
