To be disappointed at friends' lack of support

I've been on a diet since January this year and have lost 4 stone so far. I want to lose another stone but certain friends/work colleagues keep telling me not to lose any more. They are not just saying it as a form of compliment as they're actively trying to persuade me to eat stuff like cakes, chips etc. Another stone will take my BMI down to 25 so it's not even like I'm even in the healthy weight range yet let alone underweight!

I've not rubbed my weight loss in anyone's face so I can't understand why people would want to sabotage me and try and tempt me with junk food. AIBU to wonder what's behind people's motives for not wanting me to lose any more weight?

jealousy probably. im in same position....4 1/2 stone gone.i just say i'm now 'maintaining'

Crikey, 4 stone in 6 months, what have you been doing? I'd say there are two possibilities here, one, they are jealous and trying to sabotage you and two, you've lost the weight a bit too quickly, perhaps without enough exercise, and you're starting to look a bit saggy of skin? Weight loss can be ageing.

JumpingJackSprat · 08/07/2013 19:16

Ignore them. my ex did this and successfully put me off leading to me gaining mire weight than ever. unless youre doing it in a really unhealthy way like not eatimg enough/ bingeing then carry on! If in doubt see your gp.

CloudsAndTrees · 08/07/2013 19:25

Snoot has a point. Weight loss can be very ageing, and can make people look unhealthy and gaunt, even when technically they are still overweight. Is this a possibility?

FasterStronger · 08/07/2013 19:28

You are correct to question their motives. You have done really well. Keep it up.

MrsBrownsGirl · 08/07/2013 19:29

Four stone since January works out at a fraction over 2lb per week, considering most people lose a bit more in their first couple of weeks then my rate of loss has been spot-on according to the usual advice of aiming for 1-2lb per week.

I definitely don't look gaunt!

heysoulsister congrats on your weight loss too

How have you both done it? Blush

SkinnybitchWannabe · 08/07/2013 19:34

Wow! Congratulations on your amazing weightloss. They're probably jealous.

CMOTDibbler · 08/07/2013 19:38

I've lost 3 1/2 stone since September, and I found the same. I just kept telling them 'thanks, but with my risk of type 2 diabetes the GP has told me I need to get my BMI right in the normal range'

MrsBrownsGirl · 08/07/2013 19:57

Thanks, I think I will try going down the "medical" route as anything else just elicits "a tiny bit won't hurt you" type of response. I still find it upsetting though that people who I consider as friends would want to derail me purposely.

LittleNoona I've been having around 1200-1500 calories per day mainly made up of unprocessed foods like lean meat or fish with fresh veg, lots of fruit and natural yoghurt. I also go to the gym 3 times a week. I found before that when I had "healthy" treats like snack-a-jacks or go-ahead bars my weight loss would plateau after a few weeks despite me having the same number of calories overall as now. This is the first time I've managed to get past the first couple of stone.

Well done all of you! Thanks

You've done so brilliantly! I know how hard it is to shift weight. Although from what you've said MrsBrowns, I think I've not helped myself as I was addicted to those bloody go ahead bars Blush
