....... they are being described as "cunts" and "fannys".

They are obviously both despicable in their attitudes to women. But when we reach into our " terms of abuse" vocabularies we pull out words for women's genitals. Sad

Curlew on this occasion, I'm with you 100%.

It is befitting to call them knob cheese or clap ridden pricks, IMHO Wink

Shouldn't you be giving the making of that bench more consideration? It's been knocked up a bit too quickly I'd say.

Hi yamsareyammy Grin

language is largely metaphorical but metaphors tend to die over time so that the origins of the word have less and less influence...meanings shift.

Language shapes thought, it goes without saying that it can be instructive to analyse language!

While we're on the subject, what exactly is meant by 'over thinking'?
I suppose it means that a person is seeing meanings which dont exist, but really meaning is an abstract and fluid thing, no one can categorically say what anything does or doesnt meanConfused Confused

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 15:13

'It's OK Sigmund, the thinking that underpins this bench has been evolving for many years.'

Mmmm, Maybe it's a been stretched long and thin and is about to collapse.

What am I doing? Murray is on! I feel it in my heathen waters, he's going to win this time.

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 15:17

'While we're on the subject, what exactly is meant by 'over thinking'

IMO, it means seeing things that aren't necessarily there. Or adding things you think should be there.

TheFallenNinja · 07/07/2013 15:18

Goody. It's the war of the academic know alls.

Help, help, I'm being repressed.

I know this is going to come across as me trying to play the smart arse, but can I ask all of the women here a question?

Are there any amongst us who don't realise that using the word 'Cunt' as an insult was brought about by the patriarchy to make us feel our bodies were repulsive and to offend, belittle and shame women, hence further ensuring our oppression?

This is why many feminists agree that the word 'Cunt' is, by its very nature, a much more offensive word than cock or fuck for example and I firmly believe they are correct...if we are using it to insult or cause offence.

Now, before everyone starts offering their retorts, I must say that I, in fact, do use the word 'Cunt', but I'm one of those "I want to reclaim the word" users and as such, I'm always mindful that for me, most men don't deserve to be called a 'Cunt', as 'Cunts' are warm, safe, sought after and accommodating.

Now lets all be good cunts and raise a glass to women Grin

TheFallenNinja · 07/07/2013 15:22

It's all a bit dull really, just criticising how others use their language to express themselves.

It doesn't make the world a better place, just more dull.

TheFallenNinja · 07/07/2013 15:24

I do like cunty chops though.

"don't worry, relax, you're over thinking it". But it can also be used to patronise

it's all in the ambiguity isnt it!

I sit outside of the box.

Etc Grin

Murry will win.

TheFallenNinja · 07/07/2013 15:31

I'm clearly punching above my educational weight here as its been cleverly pointed out that I may be mistaking the meanings of two similar looking words.

They kind of look the same to me.
