....... they are being described as "cunts" and "fannys".

They are obviously both despicable in their attitudes to women. But when we reach into our " terms of abuse" vocabularies we pull out words for women's genitals. Sad

Over-thinking and over-analysing swear words?

Am I bollocks.

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 12:27

'Overthinking better than underthinking wouldn't you say?'

No. There is very little that benefits from overthinking. Overthinking is destructive.

curlew · 07/07/2013 12:34

"curlew - disingenuous??? Really?

Who the hell are you to say that anyone who doesn't think cunt is a 'worse' word than prick is 'disingenuous'? Do you actually know the meaning of the word disingenuous? I hope not and you were just being so insulting by accident!

Grin yep. I know what disingenuous means.

I disagree. I suspect many of the advancements in medicine, science and general knowledge have originated from those pesky overthinkers.
John snow being a famous example. Couldnt he have just put the map down and watched eastenders or something? It was only cholera - nothing compared to what goes on in albert Square.

curlew · 07/07/2013 12:37

There is far too much underthinking in the world. There's too much no thinking as well.

OP posts:
mercury7 · 07/07/2013 12:40

yes, overthinking IS destructive

it destroys ignorance and oppression Wink

:o :o :o @ Stealth and the collapsed bench!

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 12:55

'it destroys ignorance and oppression'

It creates ignorance and oppression.

Particularly oppression. If I sat around thinking about how unfair life is, I might feel oppressed*.

*probably why I don't feel oppressed.

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 12:57

I'm outside in the sun, untroubled on my bench. Not thinking, just mindfully meditating.

I would say I am happy to underthink and fail to challenge on this subject yes. I could not care less about Saatchi or Inverdale and I am certainly not bothered by whatever name calling goes on.

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 13:06

'Your bench sounds nice Sigmund I wish I could sit there with you. I can't...'

You could. Buddhism will teach you that.

OP why is cunt a worse insult than prick? Is it because society views women's genitalia as disgusting? yet another example of sexism alive & well!

BitBewildered · 07/07/2013 13:20

I like using the word cunt. I use it whenever the situation seems to me to require it. I have, and do, consider the meanings and derivation of the word especially with regard to using it to describe an unpleasant man. I do not feel my feminist principles are compromised.

I am particularly fond of 'cunty-chops'.

SigmundFraude · 07/07/2013 13:32

Well that's both admirable and sad Buffy.

It's like trying to stop a tsunami with your hand. Look what happened to Rome. That's our future. Societies are cyclical, in 200 years time the world will be a very different place, not necessarily better. I would say enjoy your life now, love your children, and bow to the inevitable I'm afraid.

'But I don't bow to nobody, not even this "inevitable", whoever he or she is'

He or she is completely out of our control now.

So I sit on my bench and enjoy watching the neighbourhoods kids jumping in and out of our pool Grin

It's all good.
