Should be done under the trades descriptions act ?

we're moving into a much bigger house and therefore I am permanently attached to my ipad on ebay for cheap furniture. There are some truly eye-watering items described as "shabby chic" which can only really be described as "shitty and not at all chic"

Mmm, the naked (except for socks) mannequin really adds something!

ChazDingle · 07/07/2013 19:47

sellers are gonna get excited they got so many viewers!

currentbuns · 07/07/2013 20:06

Dresser Five hundred and twenty five pounds!?

FunkyNails · 07/07/2013 20:13

I am laughing Grin at the fact the sellers are probably sitting thinking "oh look how many viewers I am getting this is going great" reminds me of a story of a wife who had a hobby with a friend of seeng who could find the most ugly thing on face book and the husband thinking he was being really smart when buying her birthday present and checking her ebay history.

OMG - that chair is buy it now at £100, and it only received £16 in bids (reserve not met)! Haha!

sweetsummerlove · 07/07/2013 20:30

ffs, im with you on this one. I could tear my hair out over the amount of sellers that list items as 'vintage' ...its not vintage, its somthing that's been MADE to look old (so should be shabby chicsupposedly) why don't people know the difference?

-old jewellery, vintage.

frame with purposely scuffed paint-NOT VINTAGE.

agghh. lol

MalcolmTuckersMum · 07/07/2013 20:33

Oh shit - I actually quite like that thing with the random mannequin in it. Not 188 quids worth of like, for sure, but I do like it!

pigletmania · 07/07/2013 20:36

Shabby chic, old pile of tat!

sarahtigh · 07/07/2013 20:41

the bedroom set could be purchased in any auction ( like the ones on bargau=in hunt not sothebys) for between 50-150 any time you like however at auction it would be brown really old mahogany sells well but edwardian / early art deco brown furniture is not worth a lot and you could paint it yourself

mrsjay · 07/07/2013 20:51

I saw a ^vintage top the other day on ebay from primark Grin

Mandy2003 · 07/07/2013 21:04

Shabby Chic is in fact a registered trade mark, and eBay will pull the ads if they are reported under trade mark infringement. Never seems to happen tho!

frumpet · 07/07/2013 22:27

sarahtigh , was thinking exactly the same thing myself , our local auction house bangs out the same sets for way less than a £100 , in brown ! How much is a tin of farrow and ball paint ?

frumpet · 07/07/2013 22:28

I quite like brown furniture Grin

rockybalboa · 07/07/2013 22:43

I love the shape of that chair and it would look mega cool in my bedroom reupholstered in a funky fabric. This is why going on an upholstery course is on my 'to do' list. I love the idea of taking manky old furniture and making it look cool again not that we went to Ikea last week, honest...

luckyclucky · 07/07/2013 22:51

YANBU
my other half calls it all 'shabby shit' & he is NBU either Grin
