FB friend has lots of (lovely) pictures ofher 13 yr old graduating from Y8 all with gowns and mortar boards and gowns and professional photos.What is the significance of end of Y8?
(It is a not-very-academic-school if that makes any difference.) I don't want to ask why , incase it comes across as criticism

There is truly no real significance - get's right on my bits. But not harming anyone - so each to their own.

For prep schools, especially but not exclusively boys, that is the time when they move up to senior school. And they will have achieved their common entrance results - so a defining moment in their school career. If they get the right score at CE they can move to their preferred senior school.

Could it be a school in the middle school system?

What's a not very academic school? Performing Arts or something? They may just like to be more, um, theatrical about stuff?

At my Ds' nursery they have graduation before they leave for reception ffs!
I mean, it kiiind of makes sense here as it's a University based nursery and they time it with the actual graduation, but still it's a bit odd.

Where does your friend live? Our equivalent of y8 I think is p7, after which they go to secondary school.

No 2 tier (primary and secondary system).I don't think may of them will
be taking CE!!

Year 8 is final year of middle school here. Maybe that's why!

our high school had a 6th year graduation this year first time they have done anything like that dd1 just left
