Can't attend something I've organised

I've organised for 4 other other couples and dh& me to go to a ball, for a bit of fun. They all know each other some better than others. Now here's the thing.... I've forgotten we are about to get a new kitten around the same time... Dh&i were planning on going away -anywhere- with the dc in mid aug but now don't want to go and leave the kitten,so the only alternative is to postpone the kittens arrival by a week and takes break sooner but it would mean dropping out of the ball.which would be bad form.... AIBU? (And a sneaky WWYD) ? Thx

Why do you need to drop out of the ball, it's just a cat, it will be fine on it's own for a few hours (I've had cats all my life, they mostly eat and sleep, I have never cancelled plans for an evening out to stay in with one).

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/07/2013 23:13

Postpone the kittens for another week and Cinderella, you shall go to the ball! Grin

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/07/2013 23:13

Or, wot FeckOff said, kitten will survive and presumably you'd have a babysitter?

MojitoMagnet · 04/07/2013 23:14

Yes YABU - stick with the Ball.
Kittens are lovely but different kittens a few weeks later will still be lovely. Don't get hung up on these particular kittens - there are plenty of kitten-loving homes for them to go to. Find some kittens who need a home in Sept/Oct instead.

Chippychop · 04/07/2013 23:18

Sorry not sure I've explained it properly. Before we 'take delivery ' of the kitten we want to get the hols out of the way so he's not on his own or has to be in Cattery so young.the only way I can fit it all in is to postpone delivery a week and go on holiday but it would mean going on holiday the day of the ball. What a div!

I'd be pretty annoyed if someone had asked me to go a ball and I'd gone to time/effort/expense and they dropped out because of a cat.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/07/2013 23:29

Can you postpone delivery, and go on holiday a day or two later?

Chippychop · 04/07/2013 23:57

Cats due for collection, same day as ball(27th) . I could put the cat back a week or so But I'd need to go away on the sat... Dh really needs a holiday too

UnrequitedSkink · 04/07/2013 23:59

Can you ask the cat owner if you can put back the cat 2 weeks?

Crinkle77 · 05/07/2013 15:52

The kitten will be fine. Just shut it somewhere where it can't cause too much havoc

IvanaCake · 05/07/2013 16:14

You can't drop out of the ball to go on holiday, it would be really rude and of I were your friends I'd be pissed off with you.

Chippychop · 05/07/2013 18:33

A solution... The Holiday company will allow us to check in on Sunday ( day after ball) and stay the full 7 nights still. I'll pick up kitten on our return from hols. My mates will think I'm great for arranging the ball, the dc and Dh get a full week together, the kitten knows no different and cinders goes to the ball with an easy conscienceGrin

Was just going to respond, but I see it's now resolved.

Enjoy your ball, holiday and kitten!
