To think a primary school cannot enforce the use of embroidered PE kit?!

Today we were told that from September all children must have the school logo PE kit and for new starters in Reception, this needs to be ordered by tomorrow. The full kit costs £32 and has the child's name embroidered on as well, so it's impossible to hand it down to siblings or buy second hand.

Now then, I was always under the impression that somewhere there is a piece of legislation that says primary schools cannot enforce school uniform, let alone bloody PE kit that costs a fortune.

AIBU to refuse to fork out for the kit and carry on using the Asda joggers and t-shirts they've always had?

As far as I knew Academies can do what they like?

I agree with badbride - if it is quality, washes well and you buy it big, £32 isn't a bad deal.

Look on the bright side, we spunked £300 on uniform, including summer and winter hats Grin

I would never spend that much on a pe kit. My ds would still manage to lose his even with his name embroidered on the front. This is the boy who loses everything including once coming home in only one school shoe. And I label everything and still half of it never turns up!

£300 LadyBryan?!

Thanks for all the responses. I'm glad to know it's not U of me to not want to pay out that much for bloody PE kit. I'll put the feelers out this afternoon at pick-up time and see what other parents think about revolting.

Ladybryan, "summer and winter hats"?

That's got to be a private school, surely?
