I am attempting to get DS into bed and asleep. He is autistic with ADHD and I need to sit with him until he falls asleep. Bedtime is always a struggle and is not helped by the fact there are several families in the road who evidently couldn't give a stuff about it being a school night so their kids are out playing football and screaming in the street (a cul de sac so few cars).

I have had to explain to DS god knows how many times that their parents set their bedtime and I set his. I just think 9pm is more than late enough at his age (10).....the chikdren playing out still range in age from 6-10.

Or am I being the ancient and boring old fart that DS thinks I am?

DS is now just dropping off and meanwhile the 6 year old fron up the road is calling another child "a fucking cheat" very loudly Hmm. He should be in bed....shouldn't he?

Or am I being too precious.

No this is notan isolated event either.

Sorry Jake. That sounds hard.

I have a 6 and 10yo who are both well awake at the moment but are not outside terrorising the neighbours, at least Blush

This weather makes mine refuse to sleep till around 9.30 or 10 it seems. 'It isn't dark, mum'

arghhhh

Tortoise · 30/06/2013 21:48

Mine are still awake because they have inset day tomorrow so no school. But they aren't outside playing.

SoggySummer · 30/06/2013 21:49

Come to South Wales the weather is crap and everyone is indoors.

JakeBullet · 30/06/2013 21:49

Oh absolutely it is warm...in fact DS is now in the bath as he woke up sweaty. Just can't believe that the children are still out there.

He was "just dropping off" at 9.42pm and is now in the bath at 9.49? Or have I misunderstood?

JakeBullet · 30/06/2013 22:00

Actually I ABU to think they should be in bed. But not unreasonable to think they should br indoors. In fact...they have all just gone and the six year old is now indoors. It is quiet. ...bliss.

We've got inset tomorrow so if mine were older they might still be up. But they are only little so it was bed at normal time.

They shouldn't still be outside making a racket though, it is too late.

JakeBullet · 30/06/2013 22:02

Yrah...started snoring then leapt out of bed and said he waz too hot. Jumped in the bath I had got ready for me Hmm.

To be fair to them, it isn't their fault that you find bedtimes a struggle - and I say this kind heartedly.

It is summer, it is warm and people want to make the most of it.

thebody · 30/06/2013 22:08

Mine would have been in bed at that age but maybe with a book if to hot to sleep. Defiantly not outside.

insanityscratching · 30/06/2013 22:14

Mine's still up but not outside. Dd has ASD too and doesn't need much sleep but I wouldn't let her be outside making noise at 9pm when it's school the next day. I all too aware that most children like to sleep unlike her unfortunately. It will be at least an hour before she goes to bed I'd guess.

ThePlEWhoLovedMe · 30/06/2013 23:41

My 10 year old goes to bed at 8pm - wheather he can sleep or not. YANBU
