To use pet detangler on my kids' hair?

I accidentally bought 'groomers' detangler online, instead of stuff for the children. We have nothing else in the house, they've been swimming today and their hair will be evil tomorrow morning.
I will decant the doggie stuff into the empty 'usual' bottle. The trouble is , it does smell quite strongly of 'groomed dog'.
No one is going to notice, are they?

well dog groomers might Grin I wouldnt use it it may have chemicals that might irritate the kids scalps, get some conditioner water it down put it int he bottle and scoosh on hair Instand detangler

[grins]

Personally I wouldn't. Do you have conditioner in the house? Perhaps add a few drops to some water and spray that in?

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/06/2013 21:27

Yanbu. If your children have tangly hair i highly recommend 'cowboy magic' detangler - i use it on my horses. Its great.

4leafclover · 30/06/2013 21:27

I would just put a bit of conditioner in the bottom of a squirty bottle and then top up with water. I do this for dds hair (really long past her bum and gets knotted up easily) and it works great Grin

I've used doggie detangler on my kids...worked perfectly well and no side effects such as wet nose, standing at the back door shouting at people walking by, urges to lick private parts or requiring long walks on a daily basis.

MrsHuxtable · 30/06/2013 21:29

4leafclover Your DD has a hairy bum??? Shock

whatsleep · 30/06/2013 21:30

Have you tried a tangle tease brush, best brush ever Grin brush

StuntGirl · 30/06/2013 21:35

I just read this out to my partner laughing at the silliness of it and he looked at me like I was mental and said "No, it actually works really well" Confused No idea how he knows this but, er, there you go!

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 30/06/2013 21:35

Pets have sensitive skin just like children. Can't imagine it's got anything nasty in it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/06/2013 21:37

I'm not telling you to do it but if you do, make sure you update

KirjavaTheCat · 30/06/2013 21:41

Do you have any apple cider vinegar?

Conditioner

FiveHoursSleep · 30/06/2013 21:43

We have tangle teezers but one of my daughters in particular always wakes up looking like she's had small mammals street dancing in her hair.
I will try the conditioner in water first and save the 'Groom and detangle spray' as a last resort.
It does really stink. I've spilled a bit while decanting it and both the dogs are eyeing me nervously.
They hate going to the groomers.

notta I use horse products on my mane Grin my Dsis also recommended the stuff they put on cows teats as an effective moisturiser

Quick update on this. The conditioner and water didn't really help, so I had resort to dog grooming spray ( in a kid's detangler bottle). It worked fantastically so I won't replace it until it runs out.
The girls' hair is looking REALLY shiny! :)

Haha, There you go!

WilsonFrickett · 03/07/2013 14:55

Thanks for the update, that really made me laugh. As long as shiny hair is the only side-effect...

Slavetothechild · 03/07/2013 16:10

I'm a dog groomer !! The smell does fade quickly :) and hey dog stuff is normally more expensive so look at it like its a treat hehe

MrsMangoBiscuit · 03/07/2013 16:11

I've used canter silk mane and tail to brush dread locks out of bleached hair before. Worked like a charm. Grin

froubylou · 03/07/2013 16:27

I use kids detangler on ponies and pony mane detangler on dd at shows lol. My ds uses magatek on her hair which encourages mane and tail regrowth on her hair.

Dd does occasionally break into canter when she gets excited and 6 year old pony does occasionally have a 6 year old child like tantrum but we live with it.

Most people products are tested on animals and a lot of animal products are milder than people ones.

And I have found the best thing to bath my white grey ponies is fairy liquid. Nothing else gets them as sparkly white.
