We are moving and my friend's next door neighbour is a removals man, she is good friends with him and she asked him if he could do my move for me for a good price.
He came round yesterday and seemed like a nice bloke, he gave me a quote which I thought to be very expensive and after chatting to my dh we decided to use someone else. There is a website that he found where removal companies bid for the work and we found someone on there. The price we got it for was 1/2 what this other bloke quoted me.

I sent him a text this morning saying thank you for your time but we have found someone else that is cheaper.
He text back saying "good luck with cheap"

yeah that's professional...

Am I being unreasonable to be pissed off by this?

Reply "Very professional. Not" and then block his number. Also tell your friend how disappointed in his attitude you were, and that she might want to reconsider promoting his business for him...

Do they both include the same things?

Eg packing & wrapping everything?

Is it a bigger firm-sometimes they are cheaper.

Perhaps he was confident that you'd use him.

Silly reply, but I think as others have said, no biggee in the long run.

Hope it all goes OK.

I guess expensive doesn't always guarantee a professional attitude...
This would piss me off but not excessively, shrug and move on.

Why let it bother you? He isn't a direct friend. He didn't offend you personally and simply implied that going for the cheaper option doesn't always provide the best service. If he doesn't appreciate your money situation then that's his choice.

I would have said you have found someone who gave you a more competitive quote would he be able to match it ?
if not -Thank you for your time and move on.

My dh found a site where you put in your requirements and then companies bid for the work at lower and lower prices, he was having a great time as in real life he would never barter over the price like that!
In the end he found someone who has had 197 good reviews from customers and it was less than half the price of our so called "mate"

The woman that recommended him is more of a frenemy than a friend so I expect they are sitting there now slagging me off!

Get over it it's such a non issue! His text was a little off but no reason to get so worked up!
