AIBU?

To think our house might be haunted?

I'm a non-believer usually but some weird shit has happened since we moved in 3 weeks ago. The heating keeps turning itself onto the highest setting (it was like a sauna in here yesterday) and we keep finding water splashes up walls when nobody has been in the house.

Last night I went to our bedroom to find all the duvet and pillows off the bed and on the floor. DH swears he didn't do it.

Today I come home from work and my ornamental elephants are laid on their sides with their tusks missing and what appears to be a red liquid leaking from them and onto the carpet. It looks awful. Nobody else has been in the house. AIBU to start wondering if maybe something weird is going on?

Are the elephants, or the tusks, ivory?

We have some very old Ivory carved elephants (inherited) and I've always felt a bit uneasy having them around, as though the slaughtered elephants they were made from might take revenge... Shock

Your joking right???

It could be faulty heating - and if the elephants are made of some sort of composite/resin they could have melted and fallen over and if the tusks had been glued on they may have come off - could accout for sticky residue too.

Where's expat ?
I'm a believer. There's no more proof that the supernatural doesn't exist than there is that it does.

I think - and you'll forgive my cynicism here - that if this were me I'd be straight on the blower to the DM making some money out of all this. If it was real, that's what I'd be doing.

Well if it is someone letting themselves in, then that person has waaaay too much time on their hands. Why would you enter someone else's house, mess the bedding up, break ornaments and turn the heating up? That would be such utterly random things to do. I refuse to believe that anyone is that bored! Set the camera up and report back OP!

Way to many sensible explanations here. What happened to all the good ghosty threads?! :)

Ah well bumbley - there's 'good' ghosty threads and then there's the kind of thing that would make Del Boy blush. If you know what I mean.

An instant way (whilst you consider lock changes) put a tiny piece of Sellotape on your front and back door your soon know if someone's entered your house (also great for catching ex's out when they swear blind they've lost your keys when you ask for them back')

I much prefer a ghost to an odd tusk dehusker weirdo..now then, if it is a spirit, you can calmly explain the house is yours, and they must move on.
If you happen to have any Holy Water hanging about you could bless each room with a few sprinkles.

I know plenty of people who've experienced this kind of stuff including my own parents who are perfectly sane. I definitely think there's something to it and it irritates me when people dismiss it out of hand.

It happened an awful lot when I was pre teen and lived at home. The piano used to play itself, things vanished and reappeared in odd places and the like. I recently went on a training course in a building where we used to hear clear foot steps in the corridor, the door would open itself but nobody was there.

My friend got someone in to clear the energy in his house and that sorted it - this was a very logical engineer bloke who actually felt someone shoving him on the stairs in his house a few times.

I could go on. It really has happened to loads of people I know.. The elephant thing is proper odd, I don't like the idea of that, be it someone's idea of a joke or anything supernatural.

Get some smudging sticks and have a go with those! (Ask at a woo shop..) Grin

please keep us up to date on the ghost... i'm quite impressed with the elephant tusk thing. ..and ghosts that strip the beds?! Handy! We had one in our house for a few years while my sister and i were pre-teens. Never did anything as exciting as strip beds or make elephant tusks bleed. Just threw a few things around and turned electricals on and off.....

It's probably your MIL. She's entering your home using the key your DH gave her and moving things around for no other reason than you being married to her son. She is of course being unreasonable.

The only other feasible explanation is that you've forgotten to take your medication too many times.

Really why haven't you called the police?
I haven't read every ones posts but if i went home and found that firstly i'd be like someones got a key, secondly what if they are still here in the loft or something and thirdly ew what is this red crap on my flipping elephants.Sorry if i offend anyone who believes it is a ghost,i do not think anyone should believe anything but what they think is right but I think logically.I'd be more scared of the weird tormentor and wonder what their intentions are.

Id put up a camera but don't discard the thought that perhaps your house is haunted. I've lived in 2 houses I knew for definite were haunted and 1 I was suspicious about. I used to talk to them Grin but didn't have any evidence they heard me!! The hauntings followed a specific pattern which was repeated night after night. They didn't do different things on different days. I think someone is playing a prank on you.

Apologies if I'm being slow & this is the plot of a Japanese horror, but surely after the elephant thing you called the police? Obviously somebody is entering your house & playing quite unnerving tricks on you.

If you won't call the police then I don't think anyone can offer you any useful advice.

Maybe the OP has had an "accident" :(

I'd be asking the previous occupants why they moved - maybe someone was playing a prank on them and spooked them off too?

We need Scooby Doo and the gang onto this. I'm going for it being a local developer that wants the land to build his new widget factory on. he needs to scare of the residents so that property prices go low and no-one wants to live there so he can buy it up cheaply. :o

hth.
