AIBU?

To think our house might be haunted?

I'm a non-believer usually but some weird shit has happened since we moved in 3 weeks ago. The heating keeps turning itself onto the highest setting (it was like a sauna in here yesterday) and we keep finding water splashes up walls when nobody has been in the house.

Last night I went to our bedroom to find all the duvet and pillows off the bed and on the floor. DH swears he didn't do it.

Today I come home from work and my ornamental elephants are laid on their sides with their tusks missing and what appears to be a red liquid leaking from them and onto the carpet. It looks awful. Nobody else has been in the house. AIBU to start wondering if maybe something weird is going on?

"It's an elephant-hating gnome."

I think so too, and they're murder to get rid of, but do not worry because help is available www.perpetualkid.com/gnome-be-gone-bobby.aspx

I've just realised that they're ^^ no longer available, so sorry, but you're doomed.

Ooh intrigued!! My heating used to come on in the middle of the night but that was definitely a dodgy timer.. All the bedding off the bed & the elephant massacre....that's another matter!

Get a ghost-cam set up Paranormal Activity stylee...Shock

I believe in ghosts but I would be very scared that someone could have come in and done all that. The elephant thing is horrible. I would call the rozzers asap, and get them on to it, and then maybe set up a camera too.

You know, this woman on Channel 4 has aliens who come in and mess with her ornaments, too. The world abounds with beings who travel millions of miles to participate in ornament abuse.

There you have it: it's aliens.

Could you get in some cameras and not tell DH that you're doing that? You should at least change the locks ASAP.

We had a 'ghost' in an old rental place - would come home and the cleaning had been done; once beds had been slept in when we'd made them before leaving the house; keys moved from room to room. Once we came back and the floor had just been mopped. Weird and a bit scary but at least more helpful than bleeding elephants!

If, after changing the locks, the wierd stuff continues, then the Spiritualist Church will have people who can help you.

I think they would be better than the CoE or RC vicars & priests.

They will ask it to leave and release it.

I guess as your house is quite new you don't have shared loft space?
I agree to check it's not your husband or someone else, also agree with camera hidden away (don't tell anyone else you are doing it)
When I was a kid my brother rearranged all my slyvanian families into dead positions in my dolls house so it looked like a massacre in every room. Even the grandma hamster thingy was murdered in the attic conversion :(
I am a bit woo so would be interested to hear spooky views on what it could be in your house.

Change the locks and send DH into the attic to make sure no-one is living there Shock

Another believer in general things woo that thinks someone has keys to your house. I would have dh check all access points and hides holes and get front and back door lock changed. I think someone is in the house.

I am woo but it sounds like someone joking. It just seems to far fetched. If someone was living in your attic that would really be drawing attention to themselves.

I think its someone closer to home

I too am more inclined to think that it is a person rather than a ghost (as much as I would love to believe ghosts exist, they fascinate me too Grin)
However, if it is a person than I would see this as more than just messing about or someone joking about. Breaking the tusks off your ornamental elephants and dousing them in red liquid is more than just a harmless prank. It is wilful damage and I would interpret it as threatening.

Get the cctv set up (don't even tell dh) and see what's going on.
