There seem to be a lot of these "home businesses" starting up recently where people have the idea to sell cupcakes. One of my neighbours put a leaflet through my door at the weekend showing her new cupcake service and she wants to charge £7.50 per cup cake.

Now I don't care how many delicate pieces of lace you put on a cake, you can Fuck off with your £7.50!

Just checked the Waitrose website. They charge just over £1 each if you order 12 very pretty cup cakes. Just by way of a comparison.

SauvignonBlanche · 24/06/2013 16:51

Tell your neighbour to put me down for a dozen will you ?

MikeLitoris · 24/06/2013 16:53

Well the people that make those cakes linked to don't even charge that much for them.

She is bonkers

Hasitfallendownagain · 24/06/2013 16:53

Grin at mug's cake.

FunnysInLaJardin · 24/06/2013 16:53

some of my FB friends do this kind of thing and their prices are nonsense. I always wonder if they ever get any actual real business or whether the pretty webpage is about the full extent

Sarah1611 · 24/06/2013 16:54

Usual price for a single (very nicely iced) cupcake with a filling should be no more than £2.50, £7.50 is insane!!

Cakebitch · 24/06/2013 16:56

If i could get that for my cakes; then all my problems would be over.

Moominsarehippos · 24/06/2013 16:59

£2.50 for a jumped up fairy cake?? Not on your nelly!

5Foot5 · 24/06/2013 16:59

I prefer a nice scone with butter and jam

raisah · 24/06/2013 16:59

Well tell her that hummingbird bakery (dpwn the road from my office) charge on average £2.50 - £3.50 for a cupcake and they are in central London

Do you think her dh has told her she needs to get a job and this is her showing him how industrious she is and how she is trying very very hard .

Or am I being a cynical sod ?

Tee2072 · 24/06/2013 17:01

A fairy cake and a cupcake are not the same thing.

What y'all call cupcakes are not cupcakes.

Go to America. Eat a real cupcake. Then we can talk.

::20 sleeps until I get to do just that::

Elquota · 24/06/2013 17:01

75p yes.

Ten times more? Not unless the cake is ten times as big!

TrinityRhino · 24/06/2013 17:02

whats the difference between a cupcake and a fairy cake?

farewellfigure · 24/06/2013 17:04

Smile babyheave

A fairy cake is what proper people have with a naice cup of tea in this country. A cup cake is a mahoosive American version.

Tee2072 · 24/06/2013 17:04

Cupcake: A perfectly formed mini cake, about the size of a small cup (hence the name) with just the right amount of frosting, not icing.

Fairy cake: a perfectly formed flat cake with a small amount of icing, not frosting.

They really are very different if they are done right.

Neither is superior. Just different.

FatherSpodoKomodo · 24/06/2013 17:05

I'm in Crawley and I'd want at least £10 cakes for £7.50. Not one cake. I don't know anyone who'd pay that round here!

landofsoapandglory · 24/06/2013 17:05

I have had enough of the world and his wife setting up cupcake businesses! I agree with Babyheave, they are fairy cakes (sorry Tee) and you could make shitloads for £7.50!

McNewPants2013 · 24/06/2013 17:05

I wouldn't pay £7.50 for a fairy/cup cake. ( what's the diffrence)

ariadneoliver · 24/06/2013 17:06

Hmm, aren't cronuts the new cupcakes
because the market for gourmet cupcakes has bottomed out?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/06/2013 17:07

Fucking hell!
I see a LOT of cupcakes in the course of work. The MOST expensive ones I've ever seen were £3.50 each! The best ones I've tried are £1 each.

abuhamzamouse · 24/06/2013 17:07

Trinity cupcakes are bigger than fairy cakes. Those cake are gorgeous but I wouldn't pay 7.50 for them that's bonkers!

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 24/06/2013 17:07

Ooh, what part of America are you going to Tee?

I love a nice cupcake, but then I've always been a big fan of buttercream. I could eat the stuff by itself, so a mountain of it on top of a cake is fine with me Grin I still wouldn't pay £7.50 for one though.

farewellfigure · 24/06/2013 17:08

Even posh London cupcake companies only charge £2.50 for a cupcake. Like crumbs and doilies. Mmmm drool.
