I saw the first page and last.. But moving house ad no time to know the full story
I am dying to know what happened and if it was a genuine invitation!

1 - OP received an invitation from a dear friend to a baby naming ceremony, which included a gift list for the mother.
2 - After asking for advice here OP contact her friend to ask about it gently.
3 - Friend broke down in tears. Her sister (abroad), and prospective god mother to the baby, had put her in touch with a party planner who had taken the ball and run and run and run with it. Friend was overwhelmed by the whole thing (what with a new baby and all) and didn't know what to do.
4 - OP helped her friend to rein in the party, sack the party planner, get back her deposit and contact the family and other party guests to explain.
5 - Sister (abroad) wasn't happy as she now looks silly in front of the party planner and isn't getting the reference fee (and possibly not getting gifts bought from her company for the mother).
6 - Friend was so grateful and is having the party that she wants, with no gift lists of any sort
7 - OP is now god mother to the baby.
8 - OP also announced her engagement at the end of the thread.

Don't think I've missed anything pertinent.

MNHQ? Oi, MNHQ? Can you hire Calabria to do this sort of thing ^^ on a regular basis? Then I might actually get some housework done.

LowLevelWhinging · 24/06/2013 14:56

yes yes, now do the blocked in car one. Last I read there was a pregnant two kids sat on the OPs wall at 8am whilst a pregnant woman had a heated discussion with a bloke..?

Szeli · 24/06/2013 15:35

Ooh best thread synopsis EVER x

shewhowines · 24/06/2013 16:22

What is this hallowed "blocked in car" thread?

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 24/06/2013 16:30

The blocked in car thread (in Chat)

Basic run down:

  • OP came home to discover random car parked on her drive, blocking in her car (parked in garage)
  • OP due to go out for evening and needed car
  • OP suspected offending car might be linked to local school so popped off to try to find owner
  • Group of parents waiting for coach of students to return, but they had been delayed
  • Teacher asks if assembled parents know who the car belongs to. No one comes forward
  • OPs neighbour blocks car in on drive and leaves note with contact email address
  • OP goes out for evening (gets lift from friend)
  • OP returns from dinner & neighbour informs the offender had returned and knocked on door, leaving after 5 minutes with the email address
  • Neighbour receives email from offenders husband who attempts to defend his wife's actions by staying, amongst other things, she's under a lot of stress due to being pregnant following IVF
  • 8am Sunday morning, OP awakes to find man and pregnant woman arguing at the bottom of her drive
  • Several hours later OP updates to say said couple were the owners of the car. She got the impression that woman had lied to the man about where she had parked (implied large open drive).
  • They left with the car and woman claiming she was "soooooo sorry".
  • Later that day OP took delivery of a box of chocs and a note from the man saying how sorry he was for his wife's behaviour.

We're waiting to hear if the school have named and shamed (by publishing car reg and type) in a letter home to parents warning them about considerate parking.

Er, won't it take people longer to summarise than it would for the OP to read the thread? Confused

purrpurr · 24/06/2013 17:08

No, no it won't.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/06/2013 17:14

Oh that is fabulous - I have wanted to read those threads but didn't get in at the beginning so it seemed like a huge chore, amazing!

Thanks frank

Calabria · 24/06/2013 17:52

I was glued to the gift list thread (and the parking one) as it all unfolded. No bother at all to summarise.

One thing I would have added to Frankelly's summary of the parking thread is that when the teacher put out the announcement at the school the driver of the car did hear it but was to embarrassed to come forward!

Calabria · 24/06/2013 17:55

*too embarrassed.

fantashtic · 24/06/2013 18:15

This is a wonderful service and am glad ref the gift list one

NandH · 24/06/2013 18:16

Yay, finally found out the ending to both those threads Grin

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 24/06/2013 18:19

Ah yes, we'll spotted Calabria. I knew I'd missed something Grin

May09Bump · 24/06/2013 18:26

Excellent - had read both threads but forgot to go back for endings!

invicta · 24/06/2013 18:29

Thank you for summarising the posts.
